Utah Credit Union Sells 2% CDs To All

Utah-based Mountain America Credit Union has decent 60-month CD rates for its 396,000 members, and savers don’t have to live out West to join.

It pays 2.00% APY with a $500 minimum deposit.

That’s more than a tenth of a percentage point higher than our top nationally available 60-month CD rate on our CD Rates Leaderboard.

You have to be a member of Mountain America Credit Union to buy these certificates of deposit.

Membership is open to residents of the Utah counties of Duchesne and Salt Lake, and to residents of certain census tracts in the counties of Uintah and Wasatch. Members’ family and household members can also join, as can those associated with the credit union’s select employee groups and affiliated associations.

On that long list is the American Consumer Council, which doesn’t charge a fee if you’re also joining one of its participating credit unions. Anyone can join this group, making membership in the credit union open to anyone.

Membership in Mountain America Credit Union requires a $25 deposit in a share savings account.

Members can purchase CDs online, over the phone or in person at one of the credit union’s 73 branches in Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah.
