Upstate New York Deal On Long-Term CD Rates Made Better With A Relationship

AmeriCU Credit Union offers these deals with a $500 minimum deposit.A Rome, N.Y.-based credit union is offering some great deals on CD rates that are made even better if you have lots of cash on deposit.

The best deal at AmeriCU Credit Union pays close to 3% on 5-year CDs with a $500 minimum deposit.

But to earn that rate (actually 2.98% APY), you’ll need to have an aggregate account balance at the credit union of more than $250,000.

For more modest savers seeking CD rates with no strings attached, AmeriCU pays 2.47% APY on its 60-month CDs.

That’s still more than a quarter of a percentage point better than the top 60-month deal on our CD Rates Leaderboard.

AmeriCU also offers top 36-month CD rates, which pay a range of 1.87% APY to 2.38% APY, depending on the amount of money you have on deposit with the credit union (www.americu.org). These CDs also require a $500 minimum deposit.

The top nationally available bank deal pays 1.65% APY.

Its 24-month CDs also pay more than the best nationally available deals: 1.35% APY to 1.85% APY. This CD requires a $1,000 minimum purchase.

You must be a member of this credit union to purchase certificates of deposit. Membership is limited to people who live, work, worship or attend school in the counties of Cayuga, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga and Oswego.

You can also qualify if you’re a relative or live with an existing member or qualified nonmember.

You can open accounts online or in person at one of AmeriCU Credit Union’s branches in Auburn, Cicero, Fort Drum, Herkimer, Liverpool, Lowville, Oneida, Rome, Syracuse, Utica, Watertown or Yorkville.

    Melrose CU in New York has 5 yr CD’s at 2.65% as of 12/26/2011. Minimum $5000 deposit, must open a SHARE savings account and $1 membership fee. Open to access online to several states, including California.
