Top Savings, Checking Deal In Oklahoma

Oklahoma state quarterTwo years ago, we wrote about a great checking and savings account offer at Oklahoma-based Bank2.

It paid 4.01% APY on the checking account and 2.01% APY on the savings account.

Rates here — or anywhere else, really — aren’t nearly as good today. But they are good based on what’s available now.

The bank, based in Oklahoma City, pays 1.01% APY on balances to $35,000 for a Great Rate Savings account paired with a Great Rate Checking account. The savings rate is a touch higher than the best rate you can earn nationally.

Unlike most financial institutions, which limit you to one account, you’re allowed two accounts per person or per household at Bank2, so that means if you’re a heavy debit card user, you can earn 1.01% APY on two savings accounts, totaling $70,000.

And you can earn 2.01% APY on balances to $15,000 on each rewards checking accounts, for a total of $30,000.

To qualify for the top rate, you must make a dozen debit card purchases in a month, have at least one direct deposit per month, access online banking and sign up for eStatements.

If you don’t meet the requirements, you’ll earn 0.10% APY that month.

It takes a $100 minimum deposit to open the checking account, which has no minimum balance requirement to earn interest and no monthly fees.

The Great Rate Savings account also requires a minimum deposit of $100 to open, but you don’t need to keep that much in your account to earn interest. The account has no fees.

The 1.01% APY is paid on balances to $35,000 if you meet the rewards checking requirements. Higher balances earn 0.51% APY. If you don’t meet the requirements, you’ll earn 0.10% APY for that month.

On a national basis, you can earn 1.00% APY from The Palladian PrivateBank (, but it requires a minimum deposit of $10,000 to open an account. There’s no minimum balance required to earn interest, but if you keep less than $10,000 in your account, you’ll pay a $10 monthly fee.

Bank2 is owned by the Chickasaw Nation and has one location, but you can also open your accounts online. You must be an Oklahoma resident.
