Top 5-Year CD Rates Bunched Near 2.5%

Quaint Oak Bank has the best nationally available 60-month CD ratesIt’s been more than three months since we saw nationally available CD rates as good as 3.00%.

That’s a shame.

But there still are plenty of 60-month certificates of deposit that pay at least 2.50% APY.

Leading the pack on our CD Rates Leaderboard is Quaint Oak Bank, which pays 2.65% APY.

The suburban Philadelphia bank (www.quaintoak.com) requires a $500 minimum deposit.

Quaint Oak’s rate is a full percentage point above the current average yield offered by big banks and thrifts for 60-month CDs, which is up slightly this week to 1.62% APY.

Newcomer MainStreet Bank offers the second best rate: 2.60% APY with a $500 minimum deposit. The northern Virginia bank offers its top CD rates nationally through its new website www.airbanking.com.

We’re also tracking a slew of banks paying 2.50% APY. They include:

  • Kaiser Federal Bank (www.kaiserfederal.biz), which has nine branches in southern California, with a $10,000 minimum deposit.
  • Hudson City Savings Bank (www.hcsbonline.com), which has 130 branches in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, with a $500 minimum deposit for residents of those states and a $5,000 minimum for everyone else.
  • Dime Savings Bank of Williamsburgh (www.dimedirect.com), which has 26 branches in the New York City area, with a $500 minimum deposit.
  • Salem Five Savings Bank (www.salemfive.com), which has 22 branches just north of Boston, with a $10,000 minimum deposit.
  • NOVA Savings Bank (www.novasavingsbank.com), which has a dozen branches in the Philadelphia area, with a $500 minimum deposit.

These banks qualify for our rankings by imposing no restrictions on who can buy their certificates of deposit, either online or through the mail.

Compare these returns with the best CD rates from scores of banks in our extensive database.
