Top 3-Year CD Rates Tumble Below 3%

Only one bank was paying more than 3% in our July survey of the best 36-month CD rates.

The best 3-year CD rates have fallen below 3% for the first time this year.Now there are none.

Although the average return on 3-year certificates of deposit bottomed out in June, rates on the best nationally-available CDs have continued to fall.

The best deals on 36-month CDs available to all savers are now:

2.90% APY with a minimum deposit of $2,500 from
Intervest National Bank, which has branches in New York and the Clearwater, Fla., area.

2.85% APY with a minimum deposit of $500 from Acacia Federal Savings Bank, a subsidiary of Acacia Life Insurance with a single branch in Falls Church, Va.

2.80% APY with a $5,000 minimum from OneWest Bank, with more than 30 branches throughout the Los Angeles area.

You can apply for all of these CDs online. You may also be able to find a nearby community bank still offering 3% on 36-month CDs to local customers only.
