This Savings Account Offer Is Hard To Beat

Close view of keys on a calculatorIowa State Bank is offering a savings account that pays more than a tenth of a percentage point better than the best nationally available deal.

And it’s open to any saver in the United States. But you won’t find this on our list of top nationally available deals because there’s a restriction, although it’s not a bad restriction in this case.

If you want the savings account, you also have to open a checking account, which pays a sweet 3.25% APY.

Not a bad price to pay.

The savings account pays 1.15% APY, better than the 1.01% APY offered by the leader on our list of nationally available deals.

Before you can open a Kasasa Saver account at Iowa State Bank, based in Orange City, you first need to open a Kasasa Cash account. Like all rewards checking accounts, you need to take certain steps before you can earn the top rate, but they’re pretty minor, considering the return.

You just need to make at least 10 debit card purchases each month, receive at least one direct deposit or automatic payment, and sign up for eStatements.

By doing that, you’ll earn 1.15% APY on balances to $10,000 on your savings account, as well as 3.25% on your Kasasa Cash account on balances to $10,000. You’ll also get up to $20 in ATM fees reimbursed each month.

With both accounts, you’ll earn 0.50% APY on balance portions greater than $10,000 if the monthly requirements are met. If you don’t fulfill the requirements, you’ll earn 0.10% APY for that particular month.

There is no minimum deposit required to open either account.

In comparison, the best nationally available savings account on our list comes from SFGI Direct (www.sfgidirect.com).

SFGI Direct pays 1.01% APY on your entire balance. You need to make a minimum deposit of $500 to open an account, but even if your balance drops below that amount, you’ll still be paid 1.01% APY. SGI Direct is the online division of Summit Community Bank in Moorefield, W.Va.

Iowa State Bank has eight locations in Iowa. You can stop by a branch to open your accounts or open them online.
