Tennessee Deal: 1.60%, 34-Month CDs

Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union has special odd-term CD rates for east Tennessee savers.

It’s paying 1.60% APY for 34-month CDs with a $5,000 minimum deposit.

The top nationally available 36-month CD rate on our CD Rates Leaderboard pays only 1.42% APY — nearly a fifth of a percentage point less.

A direct-deposit relationship is required to get this deal, which is markedly better than the 1.05% APY the credit union is paying for its standard 36-month CD.

You have to be a member of Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union to buy these certificates of deposit.

Membership was once limited to employees and families of the Tennessee Valley Authority but is now open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Johnson City or the counties of Blount, Jefferson, Loudon, Sevier, Hamblen, Knox, Roane and Sullivan. Members’ family members can join, too.

Membership requires a $5 deposit in a share savings account.

Members can buy CDs over the phone if the funds are available in their account or in person at a branch.

There are nine branches in Knoxville and eight additional branches in Alcoa, Jefferson City, Kingsport, Lenoir City, Morristown and Sevierville.
