TD Bank Has 3 CD Rates Above Average

TD Bank signTD Bank offers a mixed bag of odd- and standard-term CD rates as well as “No Catch” and step-up-rate CDs.

While we appreciate the variety, we’d rather see a decent rate or two.

Just two of its basic CDs and one of its penalty-free CDs offer yields above the average rates offered this week by large banks and thrifts.

The two basic deals:

3-month CD rate is 0.25% APY versus an average rate of 0.13% APY. (Leaderboard leader is 0.65% APY.)

13-month CD rate is 0.35% APY versus an average rate of 0.29% APY for 12-month CDs. (Leaderboard leader is 1.06% APY.)

And one of its No Catch CDs, which allow one penalty-free withdrawal:

6-month CD rate is 0.25% APY versus an average rate of 0.18% APY. (Leaderboard leader is 0.90% APY.)

Both of its Step Rate CDs, offered only for the 36- and 60-month terms, come in more than a fifth of a percentage point below their average rates.

The highest CD rate you can snag at TD Bank is for 84-month (7-year) CDs, and that’s just 1.25% APY.

Even though they’ve taken a tumble recently, you’ll still earn a much higher 1.80% APY for 60-month CDs on our CD Rates Leaderboard.

TD Bank, which has 1,300 branches in Florida, the Carolinas and the Northeast, requires a $250 minimum deposit for all of its certificates of deposit.

There are definitely better deals out there, and you’ll find them if you compare TD Bank’s returns with the best CD rates from scores of other banks in our extensive database.
