You'll earn 1.25% APY with a $20,000 minimum deposit.It’s a rare occurrence these days — a major brick-and-mortar bank paying competitive rates on money market accounts.

But you can earn 1.25% APY with Huntington Bank’s ( Premier Plus Money Market, tying it with the top online deals.

The rate is good on balances from $20,000 to $2 million, and is available to residents anywhere in the United States except California and Massachusetts, a Huntington Bank spokesman says.

That puts it on par with Incredible Bank (, My Banking Direct ( and AmTrust Direct (, which also pay 1.25% APY — but to savers nationwide.

To open an account at Huntington Bank you must make a $20,000 minimum deposit, and you also must have a Huntington Bank checking account with a balance of at least $1,500.

Huntington Bank is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, and has more than 600 branches in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Residents of other states, besides Massachusetts and California, can open an account online or by phone.

Incredible Bank requires a $2,500 minimum deposit to earn 1.25% APY. The top rate is good for balances up to $249,999.

The bank is the online division of River Valley Bank of Rothschild, Wis., which has 16 branches in Wisconsin and Michigan.

It takes a $5,000 minimum deposit to open an MMA with My Banking Direct and earn 1.25% APY. Balances below that earn 0.25% APY.

AmTrust Direct pays 1.25% on balances from $10,000 to $149,000. Balances above or below that amount earn 0.50% APY. You need a $500 deposit to open an account.

My Banking Direct and AmTrust Direct are divisions of New York Community Bank, which has more than 200 branches in New York, New Jersey, Florida, Ohio and Arizona.
