In fact, one term beats the best nationally available deal on our CD Rates Leaderboard.

The credit union pays 1.00% for 6-month CDs with its standard $250 minimum deposit.

The co-leaders for that term on the CD Rates Leaderboard — AloStar Bank of Commerce and KeySource Commercial Bank — pay just 0.85% APY.

The average annual yield that large banks and thrifts offer for 6-month CDs is 0.22%.

The credit union’s other CD rates are better than average and aren’t too far behind the Leaderboard’s top rates:

12-month CD rate is 1.00% APY versus an average rate of 0.34% APY. (Leaderboard leader is 1.15% APY.)

24-month CD rate is 1.25% APY versus an average rate of 0.51% APY. (Leaderboard leader is 1.30% APY.)

36-month CD rate is 1.50% APY versus an average rate of 0.67% APY. (Leaderboard leader is 1.55% APY.)

60-month CD rate is 1.75% APY versus an average rate of 1.15% APY. (Leaderboard leader is 1.95% APY.)

Membership in State Employees’ Credit Union is available to employees and retirees of the State of North Carolina, public boards of education, agencies and departments whose employees are subject to the State Personnel Act, and associations formed to benefit state employees.

Federal employees working in conjunction with North Carolina’s state departments can join, too, as well as all members of the North Carolina National Guard and members’ family members.

Membership in State Employees’ Credit Union (www.ncsecu.org) requires a $25 deposit in a share account.

Members have to buy CDs in person. State Employees’ Credit Union has 239 branches in North Carolina.
