Security Service Federal Credit Union Offers A Few Top Long-Term CD Rates

The top long-term CD rates pay 2.70% APY.While nearly all of Security Service Federal Credit Union’s CD rates are above average, its 60-month CDs are the best of the bunch.

Since Security Service Federal Credit Union varies CD rates in the three states it serves — Colorado, Texas and Utah — you’ll earn from 1.85% APY to 2.25% APY for that term.

The 60-month leader on our CD Rates Leaderboard pays 1.95% APY. The average annual yield that large banks and thrifts offer is 1.15% APY.

Like a big bank, this big credit union asks you to input your ZIP code on the rates page for your region’s rates. I used San Antonio (2.25% APY), Salt Lake City (1.95% APY) and Denver (1.85% APY) and Colorado Springs, Colo. (2.20% APY).

A few of the other standard-term CD rates aren’t quite as spectacular.

With a $500 minimum deposit, using those same cities, they range from:

  • 0.10% APY to 0.30% APY for 3-month CD rates versus an average rate of 0.16% APY. (Leaderboard leader is 0.60% APY.)
  • 0.20% APY to 0.55% APY for 6-month CD rates versus an average rate of 0.22% APY. (Leaderboard leader is 0.85% APY.)
  • 0.40% APY to 0.85% APY for 12-month CD rates versus an average rate of 0.34% APY. (Leaderboard leader is 1.15% APY.)
  • 0.65% APY to 1.15% APY for 24-month CD rates versus an average rate of 0.53% APY. (Leaderboard leader is 1.26% APY.)
  • 0.95% APY to 1.55% APY for 36-month CD rates versus an average rate of 0.70% APY. (Leaderboard leader is 1.55% APY.)

For longer-term CD rates, you can earn up to 2.70% APY on 7-year CDs.

Be sure to check with your ZIP, but rates in these ranges are still available, including the 2.25% APY 5-year rate.
