Western CU Pays Top Rates On 3-Year CDs

Security Service Federal Credit Union is offering some of the best returns in the country on 36-month CDs to savers in Texas, Colorado and Utah.

Even its lowest rate tier – 1.85% APY with a minimum deposit of just $500 – matches the best nationally available yield from the banks on our CD Rates Leaderboard.

If you can invest $25,000, $50,000 or $100,000, your rate will be boosted by 0.05 percentage points for each higher tier, up to 2.00% APY.

You can try searching Bankrate’s database of the best CD rates from across the country, but we imagine you’ll find it tough to beat these 36-month rates.

With more than 970,000 members, Security Service is the fourth-largest credit union in the country (eighth largest by assets).

Membership is open to those who live, work or volunteer in the following areas:

  • Texas: San Antonio, Austin, El Paso, Corpus Christi and the Rio Grande Valley.
  • Colorado: Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Pueblo, Boulder, Loveland and Broomfield.
  • Utah: Salt Lake and Utah counties.

Joining Security Service and buying its certificates of deposit can be done online, by phone or at one of its 70 branches.

Its early withdrawal penalty is a pretty typical six months’ interest.
