Here’s a savings rate we haven’t seen in months.
Trailhead Federal Credit Union in Portland, Ore., pays 1.50% APY on its Kasasa Saver account on balances to $15,000.
The account must be paired with a Kasasa Cash rewards checking account, which also has a top rate.
It’s a small price to pay to get access to a savings account paying a half of a percentage point more than the best rate available nationwide.
And the Kasasa Cash account is a good deal in itself, paying 3.00% APY on balances to $15,000.
Like all Kasasa rewards checking accounts, you need to take certain steps to earn the top rate on both your checking and savings accounts. Neither account carries fees.
Opening a Kasasa Cash account requires a minimum deposit of at least $25. Then you’ll need to make at least 10 debit card purchases per month, have at least one direct deposit or automatic payment each month and receive eStatements.
By doing those things, you’ll earn 3.00% APY on your checking balance to $15,000. Higher balance portions earn 0.50% APY. Your domestic ATM fees will also be reimbursed if you meet the monthly requirements.
To open a Kasasa Saver account, you’ll need to make a deposit of at least $5. Then if you meet the rewards checking requirements each month, you’ll earn 1.50% APY on balances to $15,000. Any portion of your balance greater than $15,000 earns 0.50% APY.
If you don’t meet the monthly requirements, you’ll earn just 0.05% APY on both of your accounts for that month.
Anyone who lives, works or attends school in Multnomah County, Ore., can join Trailhead Federal Credit Union. Portland is the county seat.
It takes just a $5 deposit into a Sharing Savings account to join. Once you’re a member, you can open your Kasasa accounts. You can mail in your applications or stop by the credit union’s location in downtown Portland.
