Oklahoma Deal On Checking, Savings

Bank2's savings account beats the best nationally available deal.If you’re in the market for a new checking account and a new savings account, Oklahoma residents can bundle them together at Bank2.

The Oklahoma City-based bank is offering a rewards checking account that pays 4.01% APY and a savings account that pays 2.01% APY.

Bank2 (www.Bank2online.com), which is owned by the Chickasaw Nation, offers its best rewards checking yield on balances up to $15,000.

You’ll earn 1.01% APY on any portion of your balance above that.

Bank2’s rate is slightly less than the 4.09% APY offered by Consumers Credit Union (www.myconsumers.org) of Waukegan, Ill., which offers the best nationally available rewards checking deal on balances up to $10,000.

Like a typical rewards checking account, the Bank2 account requires that you make at least a dozen debit card purchases per month, have at least one direct deposit, access online banking and receive eStatements.

If you don’t meet the qualifications you’ll earn 0.10% APY for the month.

The real savings comes when you pair the Great Rate Checking account with a Great Rate Savings account, which pays best on balances up to $35,000.

You’ll earn 1.01% APY on any portion of your balance above that.

Great Rate Savings has no minimum balance requirement.

Bank2’s savings rate is more than three-quarters of a point better than the best nationally available deal of 1.16% APY offered by SFGI Direct (www.sfgidirect.com), the online division of Summit Community Bank of Moorefield, W.Va.

SFGI requires a $500 deposit to open an account.

It’s also better than the top nationally available money market account, 1.25% APY from AmTrust Direct on balances between $10,000 and $149,999.

You need a minimum $500 deposit to open an account with AmTrust Direct (www.amtrustdirect.com), which is part of New York Community Bank.

You can sign up for Bank2’s accounts online or at one of the bank’s two Oklahoma City branches, but you must be an Oklahoma resident.

You can compare Bank2’s accounts to the best money market and savings account rates from scores of banks in our database.
