National Deal: 2-Year CD Pays 2%

Woman holding up a piggy bank with money coming out of it.New Jersey-based XCEL Federal Credit Union hits 2% with its special 24-month CD rates, available to savers in all 50 U.S. states.

The XCEL CD pays nearly three-quarters of a percentage point more than the top nationally available 24-month offer on our CD Rates Leaderboard.

A $10,000 minimum deposit of new money – funds not already on deposit with the bank – is required.

And according to the fine print, the credit union will only offer this special until it reaches $5 million in new deposits.

You have to be a member of XCEL Federal Credit Union to buy these certificates of deposit. Membership is available to current members’ immediate family members as well as to employees, retirees and members of the credit union’s 100 companies and organizations listed on the website.

Among the organizations listed: the American Consumer Council, which doesn’t charge a fee if you’re also joining one of its participating credit unions. Anyone can join this group, making membership in the credit union open to anyone. The council is a non-profit that advocates financial literacy.

Membership requires a $5 deposit in a share savings account.

Members can buy CDs online or in person at one of the credit union’s two branches, located in in Jersey City, New Jersey, and New York City.
