N.Y.C. Deal: 2.25% On A 24-Month CD

Habib American Bank also has a good deal on 24-month CDs at its four New York area branches.

Habib American Bank is offering 2.25% APY on 24-month CDs at its four New York area offices. It’s paying 2.25% APY with a minimum deposit of $1,500.

That’s not quite as good as the 2.50% it’s offering at its two Los Angeles area branches. But it’s still a quarter-point more than you can earn with the best nationally available 2-year CDs.

Habib American Bank was established in 1984 by Habib Bank Limited, Pakistan’s largest bank. It’s FDIC insured and earns a solid four (out of five) stars from Bankrate’s “Safe & Sound” rating system.

You must buy these certificates of deposit in person at one of the bank’s offices in Manhattan, Queens, Hicksville, N.Y. and Edison, N.J.

Wells Fargo is going to stop offering free checking accounts to new customers after July 1. I’m afraid we’re probably going to see more of this as banks look for ways to makeup for lost credit card fees.
