Mountain America 2% CD Open To All

hand holding 100 dollar billsLast fall, Mountain America Credit Union offered nationally available 2% CD rates, which looked good at the time.

But the Utah-based credit union cut its yield by a quarter percentage point less than a month later.

Now it looks like Mountain America is back, paying 2% on 60-month CDs with a $500 minimum deposit.

That beats the top nationally available bank deal of 1.85% APY on our CD Rates Leaderboard.

And it’s among the top deals on our list of highest CD rates from credit unions and local banks.

You have to be a member of Mountain America Credit Union to buy these certificates of deposit.

If you don’t live in one of several eligible Utah counties, you can join the credit union through one of its affiliated associations.

On that long list is the American Consumer Council, which doesn’t charge a fee if you’re also joining one of its participating credit unions. Anyone can join this group, making membership in the credit union open to anyone.

Membership in Mountain America Credit Union requires a $25 deposit in a share savings account.

Members can purchase CDs online, over the phone or in person at one of the credit union’s 73 branches in Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah.
