Big Hassle
By
Jupiter74
from
Jupiter, FL
on
4/17/2008
This bank is currently providing the best rate, but setting up an account is a hassle. For example, Countrywide allows you to immediately setup your account online - you just need to call them after you get an email so that you get your account number for wiring the money. Corus requires you mail in the documents and wait before wiring (up to 10 days). Of course, which ever bank has the best rate, but Countrywide was a much cleaner setup.

Rediculous limits on electronic transfers.
By

In additon to extreme limits on electronic transfers, funds being transferred are held in limbo for many days without generating interest, which means Flagstar's advertised interest rates are misleading.

Complete7, Anyone can join the PTA! No lying Necessary!
By
Incomplete7
from
Los Angeles
on
5/08/2008
Dear Complete7,
I apologize if you interpreted my post as suggesting one lie.
Anyone is eligible to join the PTA, so lying is unnecessary. The National PTA (search for it online) costs $25 to join. And again, anyone of any age anywhere can become a member and thus qualify to open an account at Alliant.
If $25 is too much, one can join their local PTA for much less money.
You were too busy misunderstanding my post to write about the main relevant thing of how OneUnited is taking advantage of people's money by only paying out quarterly (and again, 99% of all other banks pay monthly!).
If one was forced to close their account because they needed the money prior to the quarterly posting, they would lose the accrued interest. Highly unfair!

Yikes! Read the disclosure (truth in savings)
By
Rob5i
from
Minneapolis, MN
on
4/25/2008
I was all ready to deposit but in the "Pot of Gold" Money market disclosure it says: If you close your account before interest is credited, you won't receive the accrued interest. That could be hundreds of dollars. This isn't a CD! Interest is compounded daily but credited MONTHLY. It's on their website but you have to dig for it. You folks need to change that if you want my money.

Generally good site, format so and so, slow transfers
By
psylence
from
Oakland, CA
on
2/20/2008
I just signed up with them and, after it being my 3rd online bank, it seems pretty ordinary.
The layout isn't so great. By that I mean, once you log in, your account opens as a "popup". Doesn't feel as secure as other sites, like ING.
What bothers me most is the transfer time. A full transfer took 7 days (including weekend, so 5 business days). Pretty slow, but whats keeping me here is the slightly high interest rate at 4.01 and ease of navigation through the site.

NOT LIFELOCK FRIENDLY
By
LLSoCal
from
Orange County, CA
on
4/22/2008
About a year ago I was the victim of an attempted identity theft. As a result, I signed up with LifeLock. I generally do not have problems establishing accounts online. Because I have fraud alerts associated with my personal information, I typically have to submit to additional identification verification when opening accounts. This has never been a problem, until I attempted to open an online savings account with Washington Mutual. I completed the online. At the end of my application, I received an error message stating that my identity could not be verified and that the application had been canceled. Per the error message instructions, I physically went in to a Washington Mutual branch to open the account. I was advised by a branch representative that I would not be able to open the online savings account in the branch, but that I could open a checking account & then open the savings account online as a linked account to my existing checking. After opening the checking account, I again attempted to open the online savings account, but encountered the same error message. When I called Washington Mutual, the representatives, including one "supervisor/manager" claimed that the problem rested with LifeLock and that I would have to have LifeLock remove the fraud alert. After conducting a 3-way telephone conversation with LifeLock and Washington Mutual, I was still unable to open the savings account. At that point I closed the checking account, as I had no use for it. Unfortunately, I will NEVER do business with Washington Mutual ever again. To date it is the only company that has no means of circumnavigating LifeLock services when opening online accounts.

NOT SO EASY
By

This bank claims to be any easy bank to work with. Only after openning your account do the VERY DISCRETELY disclose daily and monthly limits to money movements. $50k per month max removal. I should have continuous access to all of my money at any time. Their terms are very confusing. Look somewhere else.

Froze account
By
RKP
from

4/02/2008
I just stubmbled on this website, so this happened a few months ago. I opened an account and had trouble accessing for a few weeks. After a few months, FNBO sent out an e-mail stating that my account funds had been frozen until I provided them with additional personal information. I called them and said "What is going?!" They said that was a computer error and that those letters shouldn't have been sent out. I told them this was not the climate to tell customers that they can't access their own money. Closed the next day.

Actually no, this is a GOOD deal
By
Mocirne
from
Sacramento, CA

5/03/2008
I don't understand the negative reviews, all of them stemming from the fact that the maximum is $1,000. So what? If you have an extra $1G laying around, what possible reason would you have to NOT put it into a 7% CD, instead of into a 4-5% CD? Even if the maximum is $500, or $1, it doesn't matter, the MAIN POINT is that the APR is high, that is all you care about. And to answer the other reviewer from Sacramento who said the amount will "automatically" renew into a lower APR CD after the 12 month term is up... that is only if you fail to withdraw the funds (which are yours to keep) after the 7% period is up.

I currently have an account with these guys but I find the website hard to navigate with useless information getting in the way. Would not you think you could go to the site, see the current interest rate on the spot, see how much interest you made that month. I should not have to dig for this stuff. If the interest rate drops you'll never know. You would have to call and wait for customer service. If the rate changes I want to know!

Guy below is an idiot
By
ericdabbs

Interest rates keep dropping because the Fed keeps cutting interest rates. HSBC is not trying to lure you in at 3.55% APY just to drop the rate right after you sign up. It amazes me how ignorant this poster is about why rates are dropping.
Is it frustrating? Sure it is frustrating to see rates continue to drop but interest rates are dropping across the board on all banks. You can bank hop all you want and eventually you'll realize that every bank has to cut interest rates. Look for the quality of the bank not just the rates and you'll see that HSBC is a trustworthy bank with good customer service and easy web interface.

Easy and Great Customer Service

I had my money (savings and CDs) with virtual bank for two years. Setup and transfers were easy and quick. Customer service was convenient (online with a personal banker) and fast. I only moved my money because their rates dropped quite a bit. As soon as they go back up, I'm going back to them.

Based on the reviews below, Discover must be getting a lot better. Their CDs have good rates. Setting up and funding the account was a breeze. I have opened online CDs with several banks (Doral in particular was painstakingly slow and difficult)but this one was the easiest so far. I did it on my lunch break and the funds transfered in a couple of days using ACH. Very happy so far.

Not the Best
By
rob5i
from
Minneapolis, MN
on
4/24/2008
I'm continually disappointed with banks that don't provide at least monthly statements. I'm talking about the most fundamental information: The current balance, the interest made this month, the interest rate, the total account value. In 1985 in the BASIC computer language I could write a program that would provide this information. I had to call, wait and wonder if my money was safe in an institution that didn't provide that simple service.

Be Careful with CapitalOne and Bankrate.com

Watch out for teaser rates like the 5.50% APY advertised by bankrate.com for capital one -- they showed this in the 5 year CD section but it required you part with your investment for 7 years and after we tried to open an account, they tried to drop the rate, reducing the interest by over 2 thousand dollars.
