Midwest Savings Account Pays 1.25%

hand dropping a coin in a white piggy bankSavers in Kansas and Missouri can open a savings account paying 1.25% APY — a rate that hasn’t been available nationally in months.

Union State Bank, based in Everest, Kansas, is offering a REAL Saver account that pairs with a My Rewards Checking account.

The rewards checking account pays 2.50% APY on balances to $25,000, while the REAL Saver account pays 1.25% APY on balances up to $25,000.

It’s a nice contrast to many financial institutions, which are capping their best rewards checking and savings accounts rates at balances of $5,000 or $10,000.

To earn the best rates on both accounts at Union State Bank, you’ll need to make at least 10 debit card purchases per month, receive one direct deposit or make one automatic payment, access online banking and receive eStatements.

By meeting those requirements, you’ll also have your domestic ATM fees refunded.

Both the REAL Saver account and My Rewards Checking account require a minimum deposit of $25. Neither account carries monthly fees, and you aren’t required to keep a certain amount of money in your accounts to earn interest.

The best rates for both accounts are limited to balances of $25,000 or lower. Any portion of your balance above the cap will earn 0.50% APY.

If you don’t meet the rewards checking requirements in a certain month, you’ll earn just 0.05% APY on both accounts.

You can open your Union State Bank My Rewards Checking and REAL Saver account online. The bank has four locations in Kansas and one in Missouri.
