Michigan CU Has Top 2-, 3-Year CDs, Too

First General Credit Union offers these deals with a $1,000 minimum deposit. We mentioned First General Credit Union last week in a post about the best 5-year CD rates through credit unions and local banks.

And, indeed, this Michigan credit union pays well on 60-month CDs: 2.75% APY with a $1,000 minimum deposit.

But First General also has 24- and 36-month CD rates that beat the top deals on our CD Rates Leaderboard.

It pays:

  • 1.50% APY on 24-month CDs.
  • 2.00% APY on 36-month CDs.

Both of those yields are significantly better than you’ll find from the top nationally available deal. In the 36-month term, First General ( beats the leader by a full quarter point.

Members can purchase these certificates of deposit over the phone, at one of First General’s two Muskegon branches or at an affiliated CU Service Center branch.

Anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Muskegon, Oceana, Ottawa, Newaygo or Kent counties in west Michigan can join.

Compare these returns with the best CD rates from scores of banks in our extensive database.

First General’s 60-month rate has dropped to 2.50% APY, and the 36-month rate slipped to 1.75% APY. You can still get the 1.50% rate for the 24-month CD.
