Louisiana Savings Deal Tops Best Offer

basket full of moneyLouisiana residents can earn a fat yield when they pair a savings account with a rewards checking account at Bank of Ruston.

A Kasasa Saver account at the Ruston, La.-based bank pays 1.15% APY on balances to $15,000. That easily tops the best nationally available savings rate of 1.01% APY from SFGI Direct (

Your savings account at Bank of Ruston must be opened in conjunction with a Kasasa Cash rewards checking account, which pays an impressive 3.00% APY on balances to $15,000.

To earn those best rates, you’ll need to make at least a dozen debit card purchases in a month, have at least one direct deposit or automatic bill payment, and receive eStatements.

You’ll also get up to $25 in ATM fees reimbursed if you meet the monthly requirements, and you’ll earn 0.50% APY on any balances above $15,000.

If you don’t fulfill the requirements, you’ll get just 0.05% APY for that month.

Neither account carries monthly fees or minimum balance requirements.

Opening a Kasasa Cash account requires a minimum deposit of $100. There’s no minimum deposit required to open a Kasasa Saver account.

If you don’t live in Louisiana, the best you’ll earn is 1.01% APY with SFGI Direct, based in Moorefield, W.Va.

You’ll need to make a minimum deposit of $500 to open the account, but don’t need to keep that much in the account to earn interest.

If you have a significant amount to deposit, you may consider SFGI Direct, even though its rate is lower. That’s because, unlike Bank of Ruston, there is no maximum balance at which you’ll earn the top rate.

Louisiana residents can open an account online with Bank of Ruston or stop by one of its two locations in Ruston, located in north-central Louisiana.
