Local 36-Month CD Rates Still Top 2%

The top local 3-year CD rates pay more than 2.3% APY.The best nationally available 36-month CD rates have fallen below 2% APY, so you’ll have to shop local to find a rate that high.

But there are still plenty of banks and credit unions offering deals that top what you’ll find on our CD Rates Leaderboard.

Here are five institutions that I found that still offer rates of more than 2% APY. Let us know if you find some near you:

Atlas Bank (www.atlasbank.com) pays 2.33% APY with a $2,500 minimum deposit. You must visit one of the bank’s two branches in Brooklyn and Staten Island to purchase these CDs.

First Commerce Bank (www.northernstatebanknj.com) — formerly known as Northern State Bank — pays 2.20% APY with a $500 minimum deposit. You have to visit one of the bank’s two New Jersey branches in Closter and Lakewood to purchase these CDs.

University of Iowa Credit Union (www.uiccu.org) pays 2.15% APY on its 37-month CD rates with a $500 minimum deposit. University of Iowa students and alumni qualify for membership in this credit union, as well as anyone living or working in 36 eastern Iowa counties.

Northstar Bank of Texas (www.nstarbank.com) pays 2.08% APY on its 33-month CD rates with a $1,000 minimum deposit. You must be a Texan to take advantage of this rate, and these certificates of deposit can only be purchased at one of Northstar’s 10 locations in Denton and Tarrant counties in suburban Dallas.

John Marshall Bank (www.johnmarshallbank.com) pays 2.02% APY with a $500 minimum deposit. You must be a resident of Maryland, Virginia or Washington, D.C., to buy these CDs.

See how these returns compare with the best CD rates from scores of banks in our extensive database.

Looks like Northstar Bank’s 33-month CD has vamoosed.

John Marshall Bank has dropped its 3-year CD rate to 1.76% APY. The other rates (except for Northstar Bank’s — see previous comment) are still available.

You can still get these rates from Atlas Bank and the University of Iowa CU.
