Leading 6-Month CD Rates Fall to 1.30%

Although Country Bank has topped our rankings of 6-month CD rates for five months, it’s paying considerably less than it was when the year began.

The return has fallen from 1.60% APY in January to 1.30% APY with a $500 minimum deposit.

Country Bank, with 14 branches in central Massachusetts, doesn’t offer online applications. You have to call (800) 322-8233 to get instructions on how to apply by mail.

But one of my colleagues at Bankaholic World Headquarters bought a Country Bank CD this way and says the process is fairly easy.

The next best, nationally available rates on 6-month certificates of deposit are:

1.26% APY with a $1,000 minimum deposit from Aurora Bank, which is headquartered in Wilmington, Del. with a branch in Jersey City, N.J.

1.25% APY with a $1,000 minimum deposit from ShoreBank, which has seven banking centers in the Chicago area, as well as one in Detroit and one in Cleveland.

1.25% APY with a $1,000 minimum deposit from First City Bank, with five branches in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

Use our database of CD rates to compare these rates with the best deals from scores of other banks.

What would I do without you, Bankaholic. These rates really suck, but I”ve looked at lots of other web sites, and their rates suck more.

Country Bank cut its leading rate of 1.30% APY to 1.15%, moving it down in the rankings. And Aurora Bank followed, edging its rate down to 1.25% APY.
