Kansas City Deal: 2.20% On A 2-Year CD

Kansas City Scout statue Heartland Bank has a good deal on 24-month CDs for savers in the Kansas City area.

It’s paying 2.20% APY with a minimum deposit of $1,000.

That’s more than you can earn with the best nationally available 2-year CDs.

But you must buy these certificates of deposit at one of Heartland’s two branches in Kansas City, Mo., or suburban Leawood, Kan.

Fort Knox Federal Credit Union is still offering this special on 23-month CDs — a deal that’s open to all savers, regardless of where you live or work. It’s paying 2.25% APY with a $500 minimum deposit, which is a quarter-point more than you’ll earn from the best nationally available 24-month certificates of deposit.

Supposedly legitimate banks such as Wells Fargo, Fifth Third and U.S. Bank are getting into the payday loan racket. A new study by the National Consumer Law Center says they’re peddling these extremely expensive loans to customers whose paychecks are automatically deposited into their checking accounts.
