Iowa Deals: CD Rates Hit 2.15% APY

pink piggy bankThe University of Iowa Community Credit Union has a trio of top CD rates for its nearly 100,000 members.

With a $500 minimum deposit, it pays:

  • 2.00% APY for 37- to 48-month CDs.
  • 2.15% APY for 49- to 60-month CDs.

Both of those rates beat the best nationally available 60-month CD deal on our CD Rates Leaderboard.

It also has a 21-month CD special paying 1.35% APY, which is a touch higher than the top nationally available 24-month CD rate.

You have to be a member of the University of Iowa Community Credit Union to purchase these certificates of deposit.

University of Iowa students and alumni, and their family members, qualify for membership, as well as anyone living or working in 42 eastern Iowa counties.

Those counties are listed on the website.

Membership requires a $5 deposit in a share savings account.

Members can buy CDs over the phone or at one of the University of Iowa Community Credit Union’s nine branches in Coralville, Cedar Rapids, Grinnell, Hiawatha and Iowa City.

(A 10th branch is scheduled to open in mid-January in Marian.)

    The University of Iowa Community CU’s 21-month special is no longer being offered. But it has added a 19-month CD special at 1.75% APY with a $1,000 minimum deposit. (It will pay 1.85% APY for deposits over $100,000 and 1.95% for deposits over $250,000.

    The 19-month special CD that replaced the 21-month special CD is no longer offered. The credit union now has a 22-month special that pays 1.15% APY with $1,000 minimum. The APY increases to 1.25% for amounts over $100,000 and to 1.35% for amounts over $250,000.

    The University of Iowa Community CU’s CD rates are lower as of April 1:
    49-60-month CD now pays 1.85% APY.
    37-48-month CD now pays 1.60% APY.

    The featured CD special now is 42 months, paying 1.75% APY with $1,000 minimum; 1.85% with amounts over $100,000 and 1.95% with amounts over $250,000.
