HSBC $50 Money Market Bonus

HSBC MONEY MARKET RATES

HSBC is running a promotion on their Money Market Plus & Savings Account. Basically, if you apply for their money market plus account with a $3000 minimum deposit, they will give you $50.

If you don’t have $3000, you can apply for their regular savings account with a minimum of $500, but you only get a $25 bonus.

Be advised though, the interest rates on these accounts are horrible!

Premium Money Market Plus Savings Accounts are 0.45% APY on balances of $1.00 or more but less than $15,000; 1.80% APY on balances of $15,000 or more but less than $50,000; 2.25% APY on balances of $50,000 or more but less than $75,000; 2.50% APY on balances of $75,000 or more and on Regular Savings is 0.10% APY.

Update: There is also a $75 bonus if you sign up for the HSBC checking account. Thanks Ranbok for the heads up.

    From what I can see, it looks like you have first have to have a checking account with HSBC to qualify for their money market account. Can anyone tell if this is the case?

    If you need a checking account with them, try something else. HSBC was a nightmare for me; I opened an online account some time ago and practically had to sell my firstborn when I wanted to close it. Their customer service was the worst I’ve ever encountered, and that’s saying something.

    This deal may not be all that great, but if you really want to be ripped off, open up a CD with Countrywide. They will sit on your funds transfer until the lock-in period expires and then lock you in at a lower rate. All this and they don’t even need to sick a gun in your ribs. Stay away from Countrywide, they’re the worst.

    Do the math – excluding the Checking – $3000 + 50 @ 1.80% for a year is 3.50% APY.

    I have opened online savings account with HSBC 4 times. Took their promotion and closed the account. Yes, their customer service sucks. No regrets
