H&R Block Tops 6-Month CD Rates

H&R Block Bank has jumped to top of our rankings of the best 6-month CD rates.

H&R Block Bank has leapt to the top of our rankings of 6-month CD rates with a special offer of 2.00% APY.Its promotional offer of 2.0% APR with a minimum deposit of $10,000 is available until Sept. 30, and you can apply online.

That’s the same rate United Central Bank was offering when it led our latest rundown of the best, nationally-available 6-month certificates of deposit.

But United Central cut its rate in half just before Labor Day and H&R Block stepped up to take its place as the only bank still offering 2.0%.

    Hmm, that’s not shown on H&R’s website listing current CD rates:

    6 months/180 days is listed as 1% APY – looks like they need to update their site to ensure consistency.

    I don’t see the 2.0% APY 6-mon CD rate either listed on their website. Will definitely NOT open an account until the special rate is published on their website. Don’t want to have $10,000 be stuck with a low rate CD.

    Don’t support HR block. What a rip off place that takes advantage of the poor. Specifically poor single mothers. I don’t care what they offer I’d have nothing to do with them.

    If you click on H&R Block Bank right at the beginning it will take you to the Block Web site and the page where you can apply for the 6-month CD.

    It’s a special promotion that only lasts until Sept. 30, so it’s listed separately and not on with the “current CD rates.”

    H&R Block ended its promotional 6-month CD this week, but replaced it with a new one — a 90-day CD that pays 1.50% APY with a $5,000 minimum deposit.
