Highest CD Rates Roundup For July 4

Bringing you the very best CD rates from credit unions and local banks.Happy Independence Day!

Banks offering nationally available deals made a bunch of changes to CD rates this week – most of them good.

On the other hand, the credit unions and community banks on our list of the highest CD rates were relatively quiet, although we have some good news there, too.

NASA Federal Credit Union, which offers certificates of deposit to any U.S. saver who is also a member of the American Consumer Council, extended its special 49-month CD offer until July 31. It pays 2.25% APY. When we first wrote about this deal over the winter, the credit union was expected to end the special in late February, but it has repeatedly extended the offer – and increased the yield from 2.00% APY.

This week, we added two deals to our list:

  • Los Angeles Federal Credit Union (www.lafcu.org) pays 1.30% APY on 13-month CDs with a $1,000 minimum deposit. Anyone in Southern California can join this credit union by donating $1 to the Los Angeles Charitable Association, which L.A. FCU founded in 2006 to support charities in the greater Los Angeles area.
  • Roselle Savings Bank in New Jersey (www.rosellesavings.com) pays 1.25% APY on 125-day CDs with a $1,000 minimum deposit. You have to live in the New Jersey counties of Essex, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris, Somerset, Union or Warren to buy these special certificates of deposit. These CDs must be purchased at a branch. There are four in Bernardsville, Cranford, High Bridge and Roselle.

We do have a few rate cuts to report.

Doral Bank in New York and Florida cut its 36-month CD rate slightly to 1.65% APY from 1.67% APY.

And four institutions have been removed from our list.

  • HAB Bank cut its 12-month CD rate to 0.75% APY from 1.15% APY at its California branches.
  • First Republic Bank cut its 72-, 48- and 36-month CD rates by a tenth of a percentage point. But remember, this bank has an attractive rate bonus available to existing customers.
  • Luther Burbank Savings in California ended its 30-month CD special.
  • Susquehanna Bank on the East Coast ended its 18-month CD promotion.

We’ll update our page listing the highest CD rates weekly, so you’ll always know what great deals are out there from credit unions and local banks.
