If any bank or credit union out there is looking to raise some cash, PenFed’s experience suggests a 3% rate could bring in a billion or so in extra booty.

Of course, sometimes you can find some gems among local deals, and, in fact, there is one 3% offer among our list of the highest CD rates from credit unions and local banks.

This week, we added another very competitive offer to that list:

Liberty Bank in Connecticut ( pays 2.50% APY on 60-month CDs with a $1,000 minimum deposit. There are just two other local deals, including the 3% offer mentioned above, that top this certificate of deposit.

This bank also offers a 48-month CD that pays 2.25% APY and a 36-month CD that pays 2.00% APY.

If you live in Connecticut, or parts of Rhode Island or Massachusetts, go have a look.

Our second new deal of the week comes from Cornerstone Community Financial Credit Union with branches in Michigan and Ohio ( Cornerstone pays 1.14% APY on 14-month CDs with a $1,000 minimum deposit.
