Highest CD Rates Roundup For April 25

Bringing you the very best CD rates from credit unions and local banks. In the months since Pentagon Federal Credit Union ended its remarkable CD rates offers, no other nationally available deal has come close to 3% APY.

If any bank or credit union out there is looking to raise some cash, PenFed’s experience suggests a 3% rate could bring in a billion or so in extra booty.

Of course, sometimes you can find some gems among local deals, and, in fact, there is one 3% offer among our list of the highest CD rates from credit unions and local banks.

This week, we added another very competitive offer to that list:

Liberty Bank in Connecticut (www.liberty-bank.com) pays 2.50% APY on 60-month CDs with a $1,000 minimum deposit. There are just two other local deals, including the 3% offer mentioned above, that top this certificate of deposit.

This bank also offers a 48-month CD that pays 2.25% APY and a 36-month CD that pays 2.00% APY.

If you live in Connecticut, or parts of Rhode Island or Massachusetts, go have a look.

Our second new deal of the week comes from Cornerstone Community Financial Credit Union with branches in Michigan and Ohio (www.ccfinancial.com). Cornerstone pays 1.14% APY on 14-month CDs with a $1,000 minimum deposit.

Credit union membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the Michigan counties of Genesee, Jackson, Lapeer, Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne, and in the Ohio counties of Lucas and Wood.

There were a number of changes to our existing list this week:

  • Bogota Savings Bank in New Jersey cut its 6-month CD rate from 1.00% APY to 0.75% APY.
  • Dover Federal Credit Union in Delaware is no longer offering its special 18-month CD.
  • Transportation Federal Credit Union in Washington, D.C., and Massachusetts cut its 36-month CD from 2% to 1% APY.

All three of these deals have been removed from our list.

There was one rate increase.

Navigator Credit Union in Alabama and Mississippi increased its 24-month CD rate from 1.30% APY to 1.40% APY.

You’ll find the top-paying deals clearly marked on our highest CD rates page, showing where they are available, with a quick link back to the original post, which includes more information on the institution and its requirements.

We’ll update this page weekly, so you’ll always know what great deals are out there from credit unions and local banks.
