Great Lakes Deal: 2.75% On 38-Month CD

Its Freedom CD is paying 2.75% APY with a minimum deposit of $5,000.

Citizens Community Federal is offering savers in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan a good rate on 38-month CDs.

Its Freedom CD is paying 2.75% APY with a minimum deposit of $5,000.

That’s a quarter point more than you can earn with the best, nationally available 36-month certificates of deposit.

In addition, you have an option to “jump up” to a higher rate once during that 38 months. You can ask to have your rate adjusted to whatever the bank’s paying on 36-month CDs – which is also 2.75% right now.

Unfortunately, the bank does not publish CD rates on its Web site, so you would have to call or drop by a branch every so often to find out if the rate on the 36-month has increased.

Citizens Community also requires you to buy these CDs at one of its 26 offices in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.

You can also compare Citizens Community’s offer with the best CD rates from scores of other banks in our extensive database.

Social shopping sites are like Facebook for people with a compulsion to shop and share. They allow users to tell the world what they’ve bought, where they got it and how much they paid for it. We think that’s a bad idea for all sorts of reasons. But here are two reasons that can be hazardous to your financial health.

Too bad. This rate has been cut to 2.50%. Although that’s still not a bad deal. As good as you can make with all but the best 36-month CDs.
