I signed up for this promotion back at the end of 2007 when they had it and I STILL have not recd by $25!!!!!!!!!! This is the 3rd time I am pursuing this matter with customer service and hopefully I’ll get my credit soon. BEWARE…ETRADE STINKS!!!!

Hey Mark,

I will stop “spamming” that site, instead I will just discuss the topic on-hand and add value by comparing it with information that I have found on that other site (wont even mention the name). As far as the Fat Wallet site goes, that’s a more generic “deals” website and doesn’t always keep up with great bank savings deals that bankaholic and others do.

So, pertaining to the topic on hand (as well as adding value from further research on other site(s)) I’d like to suggest this deal that I personally signed up for:

Discover Bank has a 2.75% APY 12 mo CD with a $50 bonus for signing up. I know this E-trade bonus is for a savings account but I still think the Discover Bank deal is a little better (only a 6 mo term). If you compare this Discover Bank CD rate yield with the best rates from Bankaholic’s cd rate page you will see that this Discover bank CD offer beats their highest APY for 6 month CDs. Let’s also keep in mind that they give you $50 right off the bat just for the sign up!

That’s a little better than this deal IMO

I second what Mark said. E*trade froze my account when I arranged an outgoing transfer and was absolutely rude when I tried to work with them to remove the security hold.

Um.. Jesse, freak out much? This guy said nothing about CDs with those rates. There are multiple “high interest” checking accounts available nowadays that offer such rates so if you’re going to throw out the word “stupid,” you might want to look in the mirror and check your own glasses.

When and where did I say the word “CD” guy? Of course CD’s aren’t yielding that type of interest. I think you need to read a full paragraph before you make accusations. But yes, there are interest bearing CHECKING ACCOUNTS that are yielding 5-6% APY.

Eric is mistaking online savings accounts with reward checking accounts. Eric, these reward checking accounts do indeed offer a higher rate, but there are some hoops you have to jump through, typically each and every month, to earn those higher rates. Read the full details before jumping in.

In any case, $25 for free is nothing to sneeze at

Eric, you may want to check your glasses for smudges because you’re obviously seeing things. There are no banks giving 5-6% on CD’s let alone savings accounts. They are barely getting that rate for home loans right now, how in the world would they be making any money? I’m not stupid, obviously you are just trying to get people to check out this other site, but don’t make yourself look stupid in trying to do so.

The $25.00 is cool but the rate isn’t that great. I found a few banks offering online accounts with savings rates of anywhere from 5% APY to 6% APY. Plus they allow you to stash up to like 50k in them. Way better deals in the long run. IMO

do you think that I can open a second savings account with etrade? I already have a banking account and brokerage with them, but its says open a new account with new funds. I would be more than happy to have a second savings account and bring in a little money from another bank.
