First Service CU Indulges Houston Savers

For savers keen on short-term CDs as we wait for the Fed to raise rates, First Service Credit Union is offering two deals in the Houston area.

It’s paying 1.35% APY on 12-month certificates and 1.55% APY on 18-month certificates, with a $1,000 minimum investment of funds not already on deposit at the credit union.

Both yields edge out the top nationally available returns from the banks on our CD Rates Leaderboard, where the leading 1- and 2-year yields are 1.30% and 1.52% APY.

You can try searching Bankrate’s extensive database of the best CD rates in the country, but we suspect you’ll turn up few options for outearning these two First Service specials.

Membership in the credit union is open to anyone who lives or works in Harris or Waller counties, or works for one of 15 affiliated employers, including Halliburton, KBR and Pennzoil Energy.

You can join First Service and buy its certificates of deposit online or at one of its 11 branches throughout the Houston area.
