You can still find some local deals that pay 3%The top nationally available 60-month deal on our CD Rates Leaderboard pays just 2.25% APY.

But you can still find credit union and local bank deals that pay half a percentage point more or higher.

Some 5-year CD rates even pay 3%.

Most of these certificates of deposit are available locally only.

But two credit unions offer 5-year CDs to anyone that pay more than the best nationally available deals. You’ll just have to put up with some membership requirements peculiar to credit unions.

Melrose Credit Union (www.melrosecu.org) pays 2.68% APY with a $5,000 minimum deposit. This New York credit union is open to anyone who pays a $1 membership fee and deposits $25 in a savings account.

Velocity Credit Union (www.velocitycu.com) pays 2.62% with a $1,000 minimum deposit. This Austin credit union offers CDs to anyone who lives near its Texas branches. Anyone else can join by paying $15 to join the Paramount Theater Association.

Here are some of the best local deals available:

GECU (www.gecu-ep.org) pays 3.00% APY with a $1,000 minimum deposit. Membership in El Paso, Texas-based GECU (formerly known as Government Employees Credit Union) is open to anyone who lives or works in El Paso County or in Doña Ana County not more than 25 miles from the El Paso branch at 1500 N. Resler St.

Security Service Federal Credit Union (www.ssfcu.org) pays between 2.85% and 3.00% APY depending on your minimum deposit, which ranges between $500 and $100,000. Membership in this San Antonio-based credit union is open to residents of Texas or Colorado.

American Airlines Credit Union (www.aacreditunion.org) pays 2.88% APY with a $10,000 minimum deposit and 2.78% APY with a $1,000 minimum deposit. Besides active and retired employees of American Airlines and American Eagle Airlines, credit union membership is open to anyone who works in the air transportation industry.

LOMTO Federal Credit Union (www.lomto.com) pays 2.85% with a $2,000 minimum deposit. LOMTO membership is open to members of the League of Mutual Taxi Owners Inc., and to people who live, work, worship and attend school in certain areas of Manhattan’s west side.

Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union (www.rbfcu.org) pays 2.78% APY with a $75,000 minimum deposit, 2.73% APY with a $20,000 minimum, 2.68% APY with a $5,000 minimum and 2.63% APY with a $1,000 minimum. You must live or work in the Austin or San Antonio areas to be eligible to join this credit union.

First General Credit Union (www.1stgeneral.com) pays 2.75% APY with a $1,000 minimum deposit. Anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the west Michigan counties of Muskegon, Oceana, Ottawa, Newaygo or Kent.

Crescent Bank and Trust (www.cbtno.com) pays 2.75% APY with a $1,000 minimum deposit. You must be a Louisiana resident to purchase these certificates of deposit and do so in person. Crescent Bank and Trust has two full-service branches – in New Orleans and Metairie – and several limited-purpose branches in Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Covington and Shreveport.

Wings Financial Credit Union (www.wingsfinancial.com) pays 2.73% APY with a $500 minimum deposit. Membership is open to people who live or work in metropolitan Seattle-Tacoma or metropolitan Minneapolis-St. Paul and people who work for or are retired from the air transportation industry, including dozens of airlines.

    All of these rates are still available except for Security Service FCU’s, which now range from 2.70% APY to 2.85% APY, depending on minimum deposit.

    GECU has lowered its rate to 2.95% APY, and American Airlines CU’s rates are now 2.68% APY with a $1,000 minimum deposit and 2.78% APY with a $10,000 minimum deposit.

    These are the changes since the last check:

    Randolph Brooks’ rates now range from 3.20% APY to 3.35%.
    Security Service’s rates go from 2.60% to 2.75%.
    First General’s rate is now 2.50%.
