Find The Best 5-Year CD Rates Now

Local deals pay much better than the best nationally available CD rates.Earlier this month, we crossed a once unthinkable threshold when the top 60-month bank CD rates fell below 2%.

The top deal on our CD Rates Leaderboard now pays just 1.95% APY.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t find better CD rates.

Of course, there’s still Melrose Credit Union, the steady hand that pays 2.68% APY to savers nationwide.

And Andrews Federal Credit Union pays 2.30% APY to members. All you have to do to be eligible to join is sign up for a free membership at the American Consumer Council.

But we’ve found dozens of local deals that pay about as well or better, the best of which still top out above 3%.

Here are some notable local deals:

Charles Street Community Federal Credit Union (www.cscfcu.org) pays 3.09% APY with a $500 minimum deposit. You must live in Grant County, Ind., to join this credit union and take advantage of these rates.

El Paso Area Teachers Federal Credit Union (www.tfcu.coop) pays 2.93% APY with a $500 minimum deposit. Membership is limited to those who live or work in El Paso County, Texas, and requires a $25 deposit in a savings account.

GECU (www.gecu-ep.org) pays 2.80% APY with a $1,000 minimum deposit. Membership in this credit union is open to anyone who lives or works in the Texas counties of El Paso or Doña Ana, but not more than 25 miles from the El Paso branch at 1500 N. Resler St.

LOMTO Federal Credit Union (www.lomto.com) pays 2.55% with a $2,000 minimum deposit. LOMTO membership is open to members of the League of Mutual Taxi Owners Inc. and to people who live, work, worship and attend school in certain areas of Manhattan’s west side.

Beacon Credit Union (www.beaconcu.org) pays 2.52% APY with a $2,500 minimum deposit. Membership is limited to those who live and work in the Indiana counties of Allen, Blackford, Carroll, Cass, DeKalb, Fulton, Grant, Howard, Huntington, Kosciusko, Pulaski, Madison, Marshall, Miami, Steuben, Wabash, White and Whitley. A $25 deposit in a savings account is required to join.

Crescent Bank and Trust (www.cbtno.com) pays 2.50% APY with a $1,000 minimum deposit. You must be a Louisiana resident to purchase these certificates of deposit and do so in person. Crescent Bank and Trust has two full-service branches – in New Orleans and Metairie – and several limited-purpose branches in Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Covington and Shreveport.

First General Credit Union (www.1stgeneral.com) pays 2.50% APY with a $1,000 minimum deposit. Anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the west Michigan counties of Muskegon, Oceana, Ottawa, Newaygo or Kent is eligible to join.

Henderson State Bank (www.hendersonstatebank.net) pays 2.40% APY with a $500 minimum deposit. You must be a Nebraska resident to purchase these certificates of deposit.
