What is Book Value?

Book Value

An accounting term that expresses numerical value based on assets minus intangible assets and liabilities. The book value is literally the tangible value of a company or a bank. The book value is used to measure the value of a company’s share as it is liquidated. However, the book value of the company especially at the time of sale could be higher or lower than the market value, although they can be highly correlated.
