Yikes.
No sooner do we post an entry pointing out Evantage Bank’s continued rates dominance for money market accounts than the online division of Southwest State Bank in Sentinel, Okla., cuts off new applications.
This follows moves by the other banks owned by the Huckabay family, which similarly ended new applications for money market and high-yield checking accounts.
Evantage’s move means the money market account rates leader is now AmTrust Direct, the online division of AmTrust Bank of Cleveland, which is offering 1.25% APY. It applies to balances of $10,000 to $149,999. A balance above or below those limits earns 0.50% APY. You need a minimum $500 deposit to open the account.
