If you live in parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey or Delaware, you can take advantage of savings account rates two-tenths of a percentage point better than the best nationally available deal.
First Priority Bank of Malvern, Pa., pays 1.50% APY on its E-Savings Account with a minimum balance of $7,500.
The bank says it will keep that rate at least through the end of September.
First Priority’s rate beats the top nationally available deal of 1.30% APY offered by UFB Direct (www.ufbdirect.com) for its Airline Rewards Savings Account, which also gives you airline miles just for opening an account, and then for keeping it open for a year.
You must open the First Priority account online (www.fpbk.com), and you must sign up to receive eStatements.
And you must live in the Philadelphia tri-state area, including southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware.
For savers residing outside the tri-state area, your best bet is UFB Direct, which is a division of Bank of Internet USA, based in San Diego. A $100 minimum deposit is required to open an account.
Other banks have continued to cut their deposit rates, and these days only Discover Bank (www.discoverbank.com) and Sallie Mae Bank (www.salliemae.com) are paying at least 1.10% APY, which are the next best deals available nationally.
You can see how these offers compare to the best money market and savings account rates from scores of banks in our database.
