Earn $100 Checking Bonus In San Antonio

closeup of pen writing in a check register.Firstmark Credit Union in San Antonio continues to offer a decent sign-up bonus for its checking account.

Unfortunately, it looks like that account is no longer open to savers nationwide.

We first wrote about the $100 bonus at Firstmark in late 2011. At the time, the credit union with 11 Texas branches allowed anyone to join.

That’s not the case any longer.

But this deal is still a solid offer for those who do qualify.

First, you’ll have to complete a few simple steps so you can score the bonus.

Firstmark will pay you $25 for each step you fulfill:

  • Sign up for eStatements within 30 days.
  • Use your debit card at least once within 30 days.
  • Pay one bill with online bill pay within 30 days.
  • Make at least two direct deposits of at least $50 each to your checking account within 60 days.

Depending on which step you take when, it can take up to 90 days to get the full $100 bonus added to your account.

Along with the bonus, Firstmark’s Free Checking also gives you 10 cents cash back on signature debit card purchases.

Everyone who lives, works or attends school in Bexar County, Texas, along with their family members, can join Firstmark. Students or public school and college employees in 13 surrounding counties also can join the credit union.

To join the credit union, you’ll first need to open a Smart Savings Account with a minimum deposit of $5.

Then you can open a Free Checking account, which requires a $25 minimum deposit.

If you open an account online, you’ll need to enter the promotion code GET100 to receive the bonus.

Or you can stop by one of the credit union’s 11 branches in San Antonio to open an account.

I became a member of Firstmark in 2011 by joining the Friends of the San Antonio Parks Foundation. Although this is no longer a basis for membership in Firstmark, a CSR has confirmed to me that, under the principle of “once a member, always a member,” I will be allowed to open new accounts offered to all other members. Firstmark still offers competitive 5-year CDs.
