Earn 1.9% On Fee-Free Charlotte Checking

Carolina Cooperative Credit Union
Carolina Cooperative Credit Union is offering a new fee-free checking account that pays a very attractive interest rate.

Members who take advantage of its E-Checking can earn as much as with the best nationally available rewards checking accounts, but with much less red tape.

The credit union, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., is paying 1.90% APY on balances up to $25,000, and there is no minimum balance requirement.

It’s not worth your while to keep more than $25,000 in your account because that amount will earn no interest.

All you need to do to earn 1.90% is sign up for eStatements and direct deposit. Unlike a typical rewards checking account, you don’t need to make a certain number of debit card transactions per month to earn this rate.

You can’t open an account online, but you can send an email to get the ball rolling. Or you can stop into the main office or the credit union’s four other branches to open an E-Checking account.

While Carolina Cooperative Credit Union ( does not have ATMs of its own, you can get free access to ATMs in the CashPoint network.

Membership is available to those who work for a wide range of employers, such as Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, and has recently been extended to anyone who lives, works or goes to school in much of suburban Gaston County.

Thanks for all the leads. btw, it would help many of us if you put the geographic or other specific restrictions right after the first line. That way we won’t click for more info if we don’t qualify. Thanks again.
