Dollar Bank Offers Top Savings Account Rates To Cleveland, Pittsburgh Residents

It pays 1.50% APY.Savers in the Cleveland and Pittsburgh areas can earn 1.50% APY with a FreeMONEY Savings account at Dollar Bank.

That beats the best nationally available savings deal offered by TIAA Direct by a quarter of a percentage point.

The one caveat is that you also must open either a FreeMONEY Checking account or a Rewards Checking account to accompany your savings account.

The FreeMONEY checking account is a better deal, charging no account fees and paying cash back for transactions.

It takes a $50 minimum deposit to open a savings account at the Pittsburgh-based bank (www.dollarbank.com), and there is no minimum balance requirement to earn 1.50% APY.

The offer is good on balances to $20,000. Balance portions above that earn a paltry 0.10% APY.

The FreeMONEY Checking account also requires a $50 minimum deposit but has no minimum balance requirement.

You get 10 cents back for each debit card purchase of at least $10, and 5 cents back for each online bill you pay of at least $10. The cash-back rewards are capped at $150 annually.

If you don’t live near Pittsburgh or Cleveland, the best nationally available savings rate is through TIAA Direct, which pays 1.25% APY on all balances. A $25 minimum deposit is required to open an account.

TIAA Direct is a division of TIAA-CREF Trust Co., the large retirement services provider. TIAA-CREF has focused on providing financial services and planning for those in the academic, medical, cultural, government and research fields.

An account with Dollar Bank can be opened online or in person. The bank has more than 60 branches and loan offices in the Cleveland and Pittsburgh areas.

You can compare these accounts to the best savings and money market account rates from scores of banks in our database
