Alaska USA Federal Credit Union offers its best rates with a $10,000 minimum deposit.Alaska USA Federal Credit Union has competitive long-term CD rates — and branches located significantly south of the last frontier.

With a $500 minimum deposit, it’s paying:

  • 1.50% APY for 24- to 35-month CDs.
  • 1.90% APY for 36- to 47-month CDs.
  • 2.50% APY for 60-month CDs.

While all beat the top nationally available CD rates for their terms on our latest CD Rates Leaderboard, the 60-month CD does so by a quarter of a percentage point.

Rates get even better with a minimum balance of $10,000, up to 2.65% APY for the 60-month CD.

You have to be a member of Alaska USA Federal Credit Union ( to buy these certificates of deposit.

For some annoying reason, membership qualifications are not listed on the website — you need to call the Member Service Center to see if you qualify. I did and was told that members of certain Alaskan organizations are eligible to join, as well as active and retired military members, family members of members, and employees of different employer groups.

Considering Alaska USA Federal Credit Union has more than 430,000 members, you should make the call if you live anywhere near one of its 60 branches in Alaska, California or Washington state.
