I am a General Contractor, and CitiBank recently discontinued the Home Depot Business Rewards MasterCard. This was a great card: decent rewards, and a very high credit limit (18k). I'm looking for a replacement rewards card that also allows me to track purchases with job names or PO's at the Point of Purchase.

The old Home Depot card statements had a copy of every receipt from the Home Depot (with a PO), and let me put PO's in at other stores.

Does anyone know of a business rewards card that allows for job name earmarks?

I got a capital one business credit card after being canceled by Advanta.
I paid the bill in full every month and have stellar credit. Capital one made it sound like I would have a 20,000 a month limit, what they gave me is a 2,000 limit (I have several employees that drive trucks around and buy material.....2,000 is a joke). So now I get dinged 39.00 every time I go over....So then I pay online to keep up with the madness and they put my payment on hold for 5 day (so the card is #@%$ing useless)!!!!! What a joke.

I completely agree with the opinion that AMEX sucks!! I am a physician opening a new obstetrics and gynecology office. I have been fronted a large amount of money for startup expenses and have a salary guarantee for the first year. I wanted a credit card to use for rewards and for convenience, i.e. not having to write a check for everything, online ordering, etc. I searched exhaustively before opening a business account with AMEX. I spoke with a customer service rep to determine which card would fit my needs best. I even explained to the woman about my startup and the need to spend upwards of 70-75,000 in a month in order to start my business. In no way did I anticipate to be able to spend it all at once, but was assured that I could pay online multiple times throughout the month in order to free up money, even though there is "no preset spending limit." Ha ha, a joke. I anticipated that the "no preset spending limit" limit would at least be reasonable!! I received the card and set out the first day to buy things. I spent about $2000 on a software package and an office desk. I attempted to use the card again for some office supplies and was declined. I spoke with the cust service rep who explained that my card had now been placed under "financial review" and would not be freed up for use until I filled out some forms for financial verification and that it would take several days to do so (no one had suggested that I do this three weeks before when I applied)! Per him, until that time there was nothing I could do. I explained my situation to him just as I had the rep when I applied. He explained that I could have prepaid a certain amount to spend had I done so before I put my account into "financial review" by spending $2000!!! $2000 to start a business? Are you kidding?! He was completely unmoved and obviously had no intentions of helping me. I am totally offended. I have a personal credit card that has 10 times the limit of a business card?!?! This company is unreal! I am currently looking for a new card and plan to pay of the AMEX as soon as my online bill is available, as my online account is current enough to show in bold red that my priveleges are suspended but not current enough to have my balance and bill pay available!!

Since the credit crises hit, American Express SUCKS! I have excellent credit, always pay on time, always in full and they cut my limit in half. I wrote letters to the customer service dept and to the CEO, sent emails and called and never received a response. Find a Visa or Mastercard Business card. AMEX has lost all credibility and value. To think they used to sell themselves on their excellent customer service. Well its not there anymore.

I have the American Express Business Platinum rewards card, and am currently searching for another company. I love the benefits AMEX offers, however, I have a 760 credit score, excellent payment history, and more than 30k combined limits with credit cards personally, but they will not grant a limit over $3,000 for my business. You can not run a business on $3,000. I recommend finding someone other than Amex for your business needs.

The Discover Business Card is by far the best card for small businesses. With it comes FEE FREE purchase checks that you can use at merchants that don't accept credit cards. The purchases you make with these checks obviously have to fit within your credit limit, but they also earn cashback rewards! The fact that I can write a check against my credit card line without any fees, while being added to the same APR of the card, AND earning rewards is simply amazing. I don't see amex matching up to this in any way. Plus a word to those amex cardmembers.. there is NO ANNUAL FEE!

Advanta orphan here as well. went with the AE plum card and so far am very disappointed. No spending limit is a lie to get you to sign up. My Advanta credit limit was $14000 and that's what I told AE when I was signing up. Guess what, I am stuck with a $2500 limit now. they do offer hope though, like our president. In 6 months, my limit may increase if I am a good boy... What a waste of time. I should have spent my time elsewhere.

Advanta orphan as well. That was a great business credit card. With the acceptance issues of Amex that is not an answer for my company. Chase offered 13.24% last week, quite a bump from the 7.99% we had with Advanta. Cap. One is the worst. They allowed a merchant to charge me for three nights AFTER I proved I was at another hotel. My good credit is too important to risk to crooks like that.

We also had Advanta. Discover with the 1% cash back on all purchases, 2% on gas, no earning limits, and checks that you can use for places that don't take cards.... sounds good. I'm also looking at the American Express plum card or Cash Card. Any experience with these?

I had Advanta too and scrambled around to find a replacement. i decided to go with the Capitol One card but this has already started out badly. They approved me almost two weeks ago and I just found out out that they didn't send my card out until yesterday. I am having it expedited but it won't be here in time for when I really need it. Also, the credit limit was ridiculous as my expenses will be over that in less than a week. Does anyone have a suggestion on where I can go and get an expedited card?

I was also dropped by Advanta dispite never missing a payment. They informed me of this on May26. However, they started declining all my credit charges immdiately. This caused us problems because we have some automatic payments made with this card that bounced back!!!
Isn't there a law that require them to give better notice, and not to decline payments before notice date? Maybe we need a class-action law suite here.

Sorry, browse to http://www.ripoffreport.com . The other link without www doesn't work.

I'm also an Advanta Business Card orphan as of today--only 3 days notice from Advanta! Didn't they have some clue this was about to happen a month ago so we'd have some time to arrange a new account?

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Good credit scores--upper 700s. Prefer cash rewards to points or miles.

@chuckerd: I had Cap 1 and it was the worst financial mistake I've ever made in 47 years. It started with a dispute against one of their merchants about a service that the merchant admitted was substandard. The dispute went on and on and on until I finally decided to cancel the card. About that time I started getting periodic $40 fraudulent charges that Cap 1 refused to research. Each time a charge happened, Cap 1 would rescind the cancellation of my card in order to post the new charge! Along the way they posted numerous finance charges and late fees related to the disputed amounts which they themselves kept re-adding to the account after they told me the charges had been canceled. It finally took a threat to sue them to get the card closed, and even then it took them an additional 60 days to close it and another couple of weeks to send me a refund check for my positive balance (the original dispute). Google "Capital One Sucks" or "Capital One Problems" and you'll turn up literally thousands of similar complaints about this company. Also try searching http://ripoffreport.com Last I saw there were nearly 1000 bad reports on Cap 1 on ripoffreport.com alone. I wouldn't get involved with them again if it saved me from fiery death.

@chuckerd: I had Cap 1 and it was the worst financial mistake I’ve ever made in 47 years. Google “Capital One Sucks” or “Capital One Problems” and you’ll turn up literally thousands of similar complaints about this company. Also try searching http://ripoffreport.com Last I saw there were nearly 1000 bad reports on Cap 1 on ripoffreport.com alone.
I got the Advanta letter today too. Only regret is that they don't give a few more days to swap companies. Personally I really like Capital One No Hassle Rewards Card (I use for personal). You accrue 1% cash back on all purchases and an additional .25% back bonus each year on previous 12mo purchases. I pay off each month so not sure how good/bad the int. rate is. I also like the fact that you can request your cash back anytime....i.e. let it accrue as long as you like. I think I will just get another now for business since I'm not seeing anything that stands out better. Basically I want as much % cash back as I can get on ALL purchases, not just certain catagories.

Those of you who are being dropped by Advanta, any recommendations? We pay off balance every month & like the cash back.

Well I guess no worries on Advanta anymore. I just got an email that said they were closing ALL business accounts effective May 30th. That gives me 4 days to find a new one. Thanks for the kick in the butt to find a much better option.

What a mess. The Advanta Card is a complete joke. They don't live up to anything they say they will. The teaser rates change almost instantly and without cause. Try to avoid them at all costs as they will try to bleed you dry once you are indebted to them. On a good note, the AMEX Blue card has been the best business card I've ever had. They are fair and just and have the best customer service I've experienced in years. Go BLUE!
