The real divide is whether or not you are a frequent business flier as a small business. A non business flier can look at cash back and annual fees. However a business flier needs to look at two things above the cost - customer service, which better be 24-7 if your flying all over the place and frequent flier miles.

One thing above all that is needed for a business card - above low annual fees or frequent flier miles - is to be accepted everywhere that you will do business. If you don’t get this then you will find yourself paying for business expenses with your personal card - and then your easy book keeping goes out of the window.

We have a United Mileage Plus Platinum Business Card which offers 17,500 Bonus Miles after the First Purchase. I do not understand why you had missed this.

There are different features for it. You will get 2 Miles for every $1 spent on United Purchases and 1 Mile for every $1 spent on all other Purchases. A $25 United Discount Travel Certificate and bonus miles at restaurants etc.

But there is a $75 annual fee. There are no initial charges. APR is 18%. For business flying needs it will be better.

I just wanted to point out that with the current 10,000 bonus point Starwood Business Card offer, you can actually get 5 free nights at Category 1 hotels.

I believe the 2,000-point hotel stays are valid for weekends only, so you just have to redeem the points for 5 separate weekend stays, although that may not necessarily be suitable for business purposes.

However, get both the Starwood Consumer and Business Cards and you get 10 free nights.

I am looking for a card that will allow me to pay my employees with their card and then earn airline miles. I don’t have a lot of business expenses other than payroll. I spoke with Alaska Airlines and they told me that they would look at this as a “Cash Advance” and that it would not qualify for miles. Does anyone know of a way to make this work?

The Chase card is a scam. Looks good on paper, six months later they jack the rate up to 29.99% They lie and will claim some bogus reason like your debt to income ratio changed. I looked on my credit report and found they never did the SECOND credit review. All payments were on time and 5 times the amount of the minimum.

BOTTOM LINE: Don’t get suckered… Chase is a SCAM ARTIST!

I am agree with Joe User, the chase card is scam. They gave me 9.9 % and now it is 29.9%. Same bad experience.

The Discover Business Card is the best one. Unlimited rewards that never expire, Miles or CashBack Bonus on all the purchases you make. Free purchase and much more! Also they have what no other credit card has for both business and personal accounts: Click to chat customer service. Just click a button and you will be connected with a live rep who will help you.

The chase card is horrible, it looks to me that the mafia works there, if you are missing a payment for a day your interest rate goes to almost 30% even sending them a letter of explanation, They are really in bussines to kill you

THE SIMPLY CASH BUSINESS AMERICAN EXPRESS CARD SOUNDS LIKE CHASE TOO - I HAVE HAD FOR A YEAR - PD BAL IN FULL EVERY MONTH - I NEED FOR THE FUEL CREDIT. I STARTED WITH 13,000 LINE, THEN WAS DROPPED TO 4,000. WHEN I CALLED I WAS TOLD DUE TO THE INDUSTRY THAT WE ARE IN “CONSTRUCTION” OUR ACCOUNT WAS RE-EVALUATED AND MY CREDIT WAS DROPPED. SO I PD EVERY 2 WEEKS SO I WOULDN’T GO OVR THE CREDIT LIMIT. NOW I JUST REC’D A LETTER THAT THEY ARE DROPPING FROM 5% ON FUEL TO 3% ~ ON THE 1ST 12,000 YEARLY AND THEN 1% ON FUEL OVER THE 12,000 - SINCE I SPEND ABOUT 60,000 YEARLY ON FUEL THIS DOES ME NO GOOD. WHAT A WAY TO TREAT GOOD PAYING CUSTOMERS. ALL MY AE CARDS WILL NOW GO INTO FILE 13 !!

As a “flier” I would be most interested in air insurance - both in terms of lost baggage and life.

In addition, auto rental insurance is important as a frequent traveler.

Some cards have them, but one has to ask the related questions to get the answer.

What is the coverage of such insurances is of importance too.

Looks like Chase and Advanta are blood brothers in the art of rate jacking… and American Express and Advanta are blood brothers in the art of credit line decreases.

FYI…..I just want to let you all know that I received my latest statement today from Advanta and was totally shocked to find that they had raised my interest rate from 7.9 to over 20%. I immediately called them to discuss this and was told that the change is due to many factors. I asked what factors as I pay well over the minimum amount each month and I have NEVER been late on one payment, not to mention my credit score is almost 800, I have not exhausted the amount of credit that was given to me. I just don’t understand how they can just decide to do this to people! And 22%! The customer service rep was not at all empathetic and stated that it was “their perogative” to raise rates whenever they wanted and there was nothing they were going to do for me. I was appalled. So beware of Advanta, they’ll lure you in and then zap you later down the road. Thanks for letting me rant!

Same here…avoid Advanta. I have business card, never late, never over balance, always pay more than minimum. My credit score has greatly improved over the last few years, and they raised my rate from 9.9 to over 35%, with no letter, no reason, nothing! I “argued” with rep and his “manager” (which I’m sure was the Rep sitting next to him)…for 30 minutes. No reason was given at all.

Watch Advanta - has great promotions, BUT they reserve the right to change even a “lifetime” rate at any time. Our business card went from 7.9 to 22% with a 2 week notice. READ everything they send to you and call them to explain every notice they send. Just because it says it is “lifetime” does not mean so, because we never defaulted in any way. Will never use this bank!

I have been using Wamu Visa for about 4 years for my business expenses, payed off almost every month. They just raised my interest from 14% to 24.85% for no reason. I pay more than the minimum every month or in full, depending how long it takes me get reimbursed. Any body know of a good credit card company that offers rewards

I’m surprised no one has mentioned Citi Diner’s Club Mastercard. It’s a pay-in-full charge card like AMEX, but it uses the MC processing netword for worldwide acceptance. The rewards program is as good or better than AMEX and the customer service is supposed to be better than any in the industry.

The trick is getting qualified for one. They have by far the toughest credit qualification standards of any card company.

I just wanted to say I’m *very* disappointed with the Amex SimplyCash - up until today, I wasn’t. Today, I got a notice stating that they had dropped my credit line $3800 to $1200 - which won’t cover monthly expenses (at least some months). Their reasoning? One negative mark on credit six years ago (which was there when I initiated the card) and I don’t “make enough income”. Ok - well, we can all agree with that, probably, but they effectively cut me to 1/65 of my income as my “credit worthiness”. I pay my bill in full every month. I have *no* other debt (although I do have other cards with 0 balance) and I have a credit score of 735 (”excellent” category). Talk about ruining my day…

Advanta is a joke. Jacked our interest rate way up for no reason. It is not fixed rates as they will say to draw you in. Canceled the card and will never promote them again. Beware.

What a mess. The Advanta Card is a complete joke. They don’t live up to anything they say they will. The teaser rates change almost instantly and without cause. Try to avoid them at all costs as they will try to bleed you dry once you are indebted to them. On a good note, the AMEX Blue card has been the best business card I’ve ever had. They are fair and just and have the best customer service I’ve experienced in years. Go BLUE!

Well I guess no worries on Advanta anymore. I just got an email that said they were closing ALL business accounts effective May 30th. That gives me 4 days to find a new one. Thanks for the kick in the butt to find a much better option.

I got the Advanta letter today too. Only regret is that they don’t give a few more days to swap companies. Personally I really like Capital One No Hassle Rewards Card (I use for personal). You accrue 1% cash back on all purchases and an additional .25% back bonus each year on previous 12mo purchases. I pay off each month so not sure how good/bad the int. rate is. I also like the fact that you can request your cash back anytime….i.e. let it accrue as long as you like. I think I will just get another now for business since I’m not seeing anything that stands out better. Basically I want as much % cash back as I can get on ALL purchases, not just certain catagories.

@chuckerd: I had Cap 1 and it was the worst financial mistake I’ve ever made in 47 years. It started with a dispute against one of their merchants about a service that the merchant admitted was substandard. The dispute went on and on and on until I finally decided to cancel the card. About that time I started getting periodic $40 fraudulent charges that Cap 1 refused to research. Each time a charge happened, Cap 1 would rescind the cancellation of my card in order to post the new charge! Along the way they posted numerous finance charges and late fees related to the disputed amounts which they themselves kept re-adding to the account after they told me the charges had been canceled. It finally took a threat to sue them to get the card closed, and even then it took them an additional 60 days to close it and another couple of weeks to send me a refund check for my positive balance (the original dispute). Google “Capital One Sucks” or “Capital One Problems” and you’ll turn up literally thousands of similar complaints about this company. Also try searching http://ripoffreport.com Last I saw there were nearly 1000 bad reports on Cap 1 on ripoffreport.com alone. I wouldn’t get involved with them again if it saved me from fiery death.

Sorry, browse to http://www.ripoffreport.com . The other link without www doesn’t work.

I’m also an Advanta Business Card orphan as of today–only 3 days notice from Advanta! Didn’t they have some clue this was about to happen a month ago so we’d have some time to arrange a new account?

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Good credit scores–upper 700s. Prefer cash rewards to points or miles.

I was also dropped by Advanta dispite never missing a payment. They informed me of this on May26. However, they started declining all my credit charges immdiately. This caused us problems because we have some automatic payments made with this card that bounced back!!!
Isn’t there a law that require them to give better notice, and not to decline payments before notice date? Maybe we need a class-action law suite here.

I had Advanta too and scrambled around to find a replacement. i decided to go with the Capitol One card but this has already started out badly. They approved me almost two weeks ago and I just found out out that they didn’t send my card out until yesterday. I am having it expedited but it won’t be here in time for when I really need it. Also, the credit limit was ridiculous as my expenses will be over that in less than a week. Does anyone have a suggestion on where I can go and get an expedited card?

We also had Advanta. Discover with the 1% cash back on all purchases, 2% on gas, no earning limits, and checks that you can use for places that don’t take cards…. sounds good. I’m also looking at the American Express plum card or Cash Card. Any experience with these?

Advanta orphan as well. That was a great business credit card. With the acceptance issues of Amex that is not an answer for my company. Chase offered 13.24% last week, quite a bump from the 7.99% we had with Advanta. Cap. One is the worst. They allowed a merchant to charge me for three nights AFTER I proved I was at another hotel. My good credit is too important to risk to crooks like that.
