Reviews of the Top Business Rewards Cards

Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express

Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express The Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express credit card is hands down the best deal. You earn rewards on this credit card by accumulating Starpoints, where a $1 purchase gives you 1 Starpoint. The real payoff is if you are a big spender; if you spend $30,000 in one year, you get upgraded to Starwood Gold status, and you get 3 Starpoints for every $1 spent!

Starpoints can be redeemed for free nights at hotels, or free airplane tickets. Participating Starwood Hotels include: Sheraton, W Hotels, Le Meridien, Luxury Collection, Westin, and St. Regis. A free night at a hotel ranges from as low as 2000 Starpoints to 10000 Starpoints, depending on the luxury level of the hotel.

A domestic roundtrip airline ticket will run you 25,000 Starpoints. Carriers that accept Starpoints include: Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Continental, Delta, Japan Airlines, Northwest, Qantas, US Airways, and United Airlines (see all Starwood Airlines). Simply logon to your account at SPG.com and you can convert your Starpoints to miles points on all major airlines.

The great thing is that when you convert Starpoints to frequent flyer miles, AMEX will automatically give you a 5,000 point bonus, meaning that you really need only 20,000 Starpoints to get a free plane ticket.

For a limited time, Starwood is running a FREE 10,000 Starpoints credit card sign-up bonus offer.

Sign up, make a purchase, and you will be credited with 10,000 Starpoints. 10,000 points is enough for 3-4 nights at a Category 1 Hotel (ie Four Points Sheraton), or 1 free night at a Category 5 Hotel (Westin & W Hotel). Or if you’re ambitious, 10,000 more points and get yourself a free domestic plane ticket.

The only drawback on this card is that there is a $45 annual fee (waived your first year!), but if you actively use this credit card, the points that you accumulate are well worth the $45. In addition, if you’re an aggressive bargain hunter, there are reports that you can waive the fee after the first year by calling American Express customer service and complaining about the fee. Twist their arm a little by threatening to cancel, and they *may* accommodate you depending on your spending levels.

SimplyCash® Business Card from American Express

American Express SimplyCashSM Business Card The SimplyCash® Business Card from American Express comes in at #2 because they offer 3% cash back on gas, office supplies, and wireless services, and 1% cash back on virtually all other purchases.

The real divide is whether or not you are a frequent business flier as a small business. A non business flier can look at cash back and annual fees. However a business flier needs to look at two things above the cost - customer service, which better be 24-7 if your flying all over the place and frequent flier miles.

One thing above all that is needed for a business card - above low annual fees or frequent flier miles - is to be accepted everywhere that you will do business. If you don’t get this then you will find yourself paying for business expenses with your personal card - and then your easy book keeping goes out of the window.

We have a United Mileage Plus Platinum Business Card which offers 17,500 Bonus Miles after the First Purchase. I do not understand why you had missed this.

There are different features for it. You will get 2 Miles for every $1 spent on United Purchases and 1 Mile for every $1 spent on all other Purchases. A $25 United Discount Travel Certificate and bonus miles at restaurants etc.

But there is a $75 annual fee. There are no initial charges. APR is 18%. For business flying needs it will be better.

I just wanted to point out that with the current 10,000 bonus point Starwood Business Card offer, you can actually get 5 free nights at Category 1 hotels.

I believe the 2,000-point hotel stays are valid for weekends only, so you just have to redeem the points for 5 separate weekend stays, although that may not necessarily be suitable for business purposes.

However, get both the Starwood Consumer and Business Cards and you get 10 free nights.

I am looking for a card that will allow me to pay my employees with their card and then earn airline miles. I don’t have a lot of business expenses other than payroll. I spoke with Alaska Airlines and they told me that they would look at this as a “Cash Advance” and that it would not qualify for miles. Does anyone know of a way to make this work?

The Chase card is a scam. Looks good on paper, six months later they jack the rate up to 29.99% They lie and will claim some bogus reason like your debt to income ratio changed. I looked on my credit report and found they never did the SECOND credit review. All payments were on time and 5 times the amount of the minimum.

BOTTOM LINE: Don’t get suckered… Chase is a SCAM ARTIST!

I am agree with Joe User, the chase card is scam. They gave me 9.9 % and now it is 29.9%. Same bad experience.

The Discover Business Card is the best one. Unlimited rewards that never expire, Miles or CashBack Bonus on all the purchases you make. Free purchase and much more! Also they have what no other credit card has for both business and personal accounts: Click to chat customer service. Just click a button and you will be connected with a live rep who will help you.

The chase card is horrible, it looks to me that the mafia works there, if you are missing a payment for a day your interest rate goes to almost 30% even sending them a letter of explanation, They are really in bussines to kill you

THE SIMPLY CASH BUSINESS AMERICAN EXPRESS CARD SOUNDS LIKE CHASE TOO - I HAVE HAD FOR A YEAR - PD BAL IN FULL EVERY MONTH - I NEED FOR THE FUEL CREDIT. I STARTED WITH 13,000 LINE, THEN WAS DROPPED TO 4,000. WHEN I CALLED I WAS TOLD DUE TO THE INDUSTRY THAT WE ARE IN “CONSTRUCTION” OUR ACCOUNT WAS RE-EVALUATED AND MY CREDIT WAS DROPPED. SO I PD EVERY 2 WEEKS SO I WOULDN’T GO OVR THE CREDIT LIMIT. NOW I JUST REC’D A LETTER THAT THEY ARE DROPPING FROM 5% ON FUEL TO 3% ~ ON THE 1ST 12,000 YEARLY AND THEN 1% ON FUEL OVER THE 12,000 - SINCE I SPEND ABOUT 60,000 YEARLY ON FUEL THIS DOES ME NO GOOD. WHAT A WAY TO TREAT GOOD PAYING CUSTOMERS. ALL MY AE CARDS WILL NOW GO INTO FILE 13 !!

As a “flier” I would be most interested in air insurance - both in terms of lost baggage and life.

In addition, auto rental insurance is important as a frequent traveler.

Some cards have them, but one has to ask the related questions to get the answer.

What is the coverage of such insurances is of importance too.

Looks like Chase and Advanta are blood brothers in the art of rate jacking… and American Express and Advanta are blood brothers in the art of credit line decreases.

FYI…..I just want to let you all know that I received my latest statement today from Advanta and was totally shocked to find that they had raised my interest rate from 7.9 to over 20%. I immediately called them to discuss this and was told that the change is due to many factors. I asked what factors as I pay well over the minimum amount each month and I have NEVER been late on one payment, not to mention my credit score is almost 800, I have not exhausted the amount of credit that was given to me. I just don’t understand how they can just decide to do this to people! And 22%! The customer service rep was not at all empathetic and stated that it was “their perogative” to raise rates whenever they wanted and there was nothing they were going to do for me. I was appalled. So beware of Advanta, they’ll lure you in and then zap you later down the road. Thanks for letting me rant!

Same here…avoid Advanta. I have business card, never late, never over balance, always pay more than minimum. My credit score has greatly improved over the last few years, and they raised my rate from 9.9 to over 35%, with no letter, no reason, nothing! I “argued” with rep and his “manager” (which I’m sure was the Rep sitting next to him)…for 30 minutes. No reason was given at all.

Watch Advanta - has great promotions, BUT they reserve the right to change even a “lifetime” rate at any time. Our business card went from 7.9 to 22% with a 2 week notice. READ everything they send to you and call them to explain every notice they send. Just because it says it is “lifetime” does not mean so, because we never defaulted in any way. Will never use this bank!

I have been using Wamu Visa for about 4 years for my business expenses, payed off almost every month. They just raised my interest from 14% to 24.85% for no reason. I pay more than the minimum every month or in full, depending how long it takes me get reimbursed. Any body know of a good credit card company that offers rewards
