The SimplyCash® Business Card from American Express pays 5% back on all purchases at gas stations. Here in Southern California, there is no problem finding large gas stations that accept American Express, like Chevron, Texaco, Shell Gas, and Mobil-Exxon. All of these gas fuel stations accept American Express and you get 5% back on gasoline!

Chase BP Visa® Card
The Chase BP Visa® Card offers 5% rebates on BP gas, 2% rebates on restaurant and travel, and 1% back on everything else. Even better, BP is running a credit card offer where you can get double the rewards during the first two billing cycles (first 60 days). This translates to 10% rebates on gas and 4% cash back on restaurants and travel purchases like plane tickets, hotel reservations, and car rentals.

Discover Open Road
The Discover Open Road Gas Credit Card also pays 5% back on all fuel purchases. In addition, automotive purchases receive 5% cashback as well. This is a good card if you buy a lot of automotive parts because none of the other credit cards have this benefit! This gas credit card also pays 1% back on all other purchases, so its a nice card to have around for general purchases.

Chase Freedom(SM) Credit Card
The Chase Freedom(SM) Credit Card is a great all-around cash back credit card. It pays 3% cash back on your top 3 spending categories (ie, gas, utility bills, restaurants), and 1% back everywhere else. In addition, apply now and get a $50 bonus after your first purchase!

i have the discover open road credit card, and i use it all the time to buy gas and fuel at the pump.

never heard of this american express cash back credit card, but i applied. u can never have too many credit cards. this is america, after all

Acceptability is a big issue with gas credit cards, so don’t just look at what your local garage accepts but at what 90% of the garages you are likely to fill up in accept. American Express is obviously an option in Southern California, but its going to be local.

What I really like about this selection is that it all three cards are genuine cash back cards. If you look on the internet for gas credit cards many of them are merely rewards cards that offer you money off your gas next time you purchase it.

I had noticed that there is a gas credit card called Chase PerfectCard, which offers six percent rebate upto ninety days of use. Ofcourse after this period the six percent will become one percent but 1% rebate not only on gas purchases but also on other purchases. The APR on balance transfer is 0% for nine months and after that it may be more than 14% depending on your credit score.

Also no annual fee for the first year. To waive it for the second year you have make atlest nine purchase with this gas credit card for the year. Great isn’t it. It seems to have something with the number 9 for this credit card.

Marathon gas credit card is also similar to the previous one i mentioned above. But its rebate is 10% for the first sixty days. After that 1%. Annual fee $20. Balance transfer with zero apr for first nine months. After that period it can be waived with at least nine purchases in a year. No annual fee for the first year. Rates can be 14% depending on credit score.

American Express gives unlimited rebates, which is great.

Discover has changed the rules many times over the years and is now down to 5% back on only the first $100 spent each month. With the price of gasoline and automotive repairs, this is not so good.

Discover Card deal has its limitations, which have become more restrictive as time has gone by. Yearly limit for purchases eligible for 5% rebate is $1200. In addition only $100 per month of purchases are eligible for 5% rebate, so if you have a $600 car repair only the first $100 gets the 5% even if that’s all you put on the card all year. Who spends less than $100 per month on gas at today’s prices?

The consumer needs to have several of these 5% cards and be selective which they use and when to take full advantage.

We’ve had BP Gas cards, and they deliver! Hundreds in either gas gift cards and/or even checks. One of the best cards I’ve ever had, esp. w/ the gas prices these days.

I’ld like to see that the person (persons) who pick these cards as the best gas cards, also have some courage to go through some details and reveal it for it trustworthy readers who at times blindly accept these claims and apply prompltly for such cards! as Discover Gas card holder for the past 6 years i’ld like to share with you this simple fact: you will eard 5% cashback on your fisrt $1200 total purchase only. if your first total $1200 purchase inculde another category other than gas or car repair or parts, like grocery, after passing $1200 mark you will only earn 1% on gas! so if you spend your first $1200 on gas only you can earn $60 max! if you pleased with this go ahead and happily apply for it but read and know the fineprints. a like Discover supperior customer service and that’s why i’ve been with them so long, but as far as reward goes they’re simply not in my top 4 list. Chase Cash Plus rewards ( no longer available ), Wamu’s new reward card, and Advanta’s original business reward card (not the new offer) are among the best offers I’ve seen so far.

My best gasoline credit card is the Shell MasterCard 5% cash back issued through CitiBank. CitiBank actually gives you your rebate on their statement one or two billing cycles after the purchases. Limitations: you must have at least 9 annual Shell Oil station purchases; otherwise, there is an annual fee. And, you must pay your bill on time; otherwise, the rebate will be restricted or not paid at all. 1% rewards on all other purchases. http://www.877myshellcard.com. BTW, many BP Amoco stations has closed in the Kansas City area.

I simply love my Discovery… I really do not care what others have to say. I never had an incident and the only 2 times I spoke to their customer service the experience was satisfactory. It might not be the best rate but it sure is worry-free. FYI - I have the AMEX card that claims 5% cash back on gas, what they don’t tell you is that in actual practice they credit most of your gas purchases at 1% because they say the merchant has to charge you for the gas “under the right code” or something to that effect, in order for you to get 5%. Evidently few of them do, because only about one fourth of my gas purchases are eligible for 5% cash back on my statement each month. Very dissappointing and misleading.

We have had the open road Discover 5% off gas card for a couple years.I just found out that you only get 5% off on the first 100.00 in gas purchases then .25 to 2% depending on your monthly total. Bummer I think I will change to the Chase card.

This “up to” stuff in ads is getting bad. The fine print tells you the “up to 5%” translates to “about 1%”. When they “deceive” you in the beginning, what should you expect down the road? American Express, Chase, and the GM cards are the only cards that I have had for more than three years that are not full of deception.

Have you checked into the Discover More card. While the open road card limits the cashback amount, the Discover More card does not.

Discover Open Road card gives you 5% cash back on your first 100USD /billing cycle only. On every additional spending you can get back only 1%.
So if you spend 200 USD/month you can get back 5USD on the first 100 USD and 1 USD on the second 100 USD. It’s not the same. ALWAYS READ THE FINE PRINT!!!!!! Take care folks.
