Corpus Christi Deal: CDs Pay Above 2%

Piggy bank sitting in a pile of pennies.It takes just $25,000 for Corpus Christi-area savers to take advantage of Chemcel Federal Credit Union’s “mini-jumbo” 60-month CD rates.

Those pay 2.00% APY.

The top nationally available 60-month CD rate on our CD Rates Leaderboard has dropped below that threshold, to 1.87% APY.

With a lesser minimum deposit of $1,000, the credit union pays 1.95% APY; with a higher $75,000, 2.05% APY.

You have to be a member of Chemcel Federal Credit Union to purchase these certificates of deposit. Anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in south Texas’ Kleberg and Nueces counties can join, as can members’ family members.

Also eligible are employees and retirees of Celanese Corp. who work or are supervised from the Bay City, Bishop and Clear Lake plants, and the Dallas office; and employees of Mustang Engineering L.P., Mundy Contract Maintenance, Oxea Corp. and other employee and contractor groups who regularly work at those Celanese sites.

A $5 deposit in a share savings account is required for membership.

Members can buy CDs over the phone or in person at one of the credit union’s branches in Bay City, Bishop, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Kingsville and Pasadena.
