Connexus CU Has Three Top CD Rates

A Final Four basketball team isn’t the only impressive thing coming out of Wisconsin this spring. Connexus Credit Union, based in Wausau but serving savers nationwide, is paying leading rates on not one, but a trio, of short- and mid-term CDs:

  • 1.00% APY on 6-month certificates.
  • 1.30% APY on 12-month certificates.
  • 1.75% APY on 36-month certificates.

All three rates beat the best nationally available returns from the banks on our CD Rates Leaderboard.

Savers should note that some varying conditions apply to the three CDs.

The 12-month CD is a limited-time promotion that expires on April 30. It requires a $5,000 minimum deposit of new money, or funds not already on deposit with Connexus.

The 6- and 36-month certificates are among Connexus’ standard CD offerings and make no stipulation regarding new money. However, they require a higher $10,000 minimum deposit and an accompanying active checking account.

Connexus defines a qualifying checking account as having at least one direct deposit each month, as well as 10 or more check, debit or ACH withdrawals during the month.

Membership is required to purchase any of these CDs, but virtually anyone in the country can join.

Anybody living or working in the Wisconsin counties of Clark, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Portage, Shawano, Taylor or Wood is automatically eligible for membership.

Also invited to join are employees, families and retirees of Liberty Mutual Insurance, Aspirus, Inc., Marshfield Clinic, Cincinnati Bell and Convergys, as well as employees, families, students and alumni of Northcentral Technical College and Rasmussen College.

For anyone outside of the above criteria, Connexus membership is available through a one-time $5 donation to the Connexus Association.

Joining Connexus and buying its CDs can be done online, by phone or with a branch visit. A $5 deposit into a savings account is required.

Connexus operates five Wisconsin branches (four in Wausau, one in Weston); two Ohio branches (Cincinnati and Norwood); and four branches within Liberty Mutual Insurance facilities in Wausau, Wisconsin; Fairfield, Ohio; and Dover and Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
