Connecticut Deal: 17-Month CD Pays 2%, Rewards Checking Account Pays 3%

hand dropping a coin into a pink piggy bankConnecticut-based Charter Oak Credit Union is celebrating the opening of its new headquarters with both a top rewards checking account and great special CDs.

The GO Checking account pays 3.00% APY on balances to $10,000 if you meet the monthly requirements.

You’ll need to make at least 10 debit card purchases per month, have either a direct deposit of at least $750 or make at least four online bill payments each month, and sign up for electronic statements to earn the best rate.

If you do those things, you’ll also have up to $20 in ATM fees refunded for the month.

If you fail to meet the monthly requirements, you’ll earn just 0.05% APY. Balance portions greater than $10,000 will earn 0.25% APY.

It takes a minimum deposit of just $50 to open a GO Checking account at Charter Oak.

To get the top rate on the credit union’s special CDs, you’ll need to complete some of the same requirements as for the checking account.

With a $1,000 minimum deposit, their two special GO CDs pay:

  • 1.00% APY on 8-month CDs.
  • 2.00% APY on 17-month CDs.

The 8-month CD easily tops the best 6-month offer on our CD Rates Leaderboard.

But the 17-month CD is the truly special offer. It pays more than half a percentage point more than the best nationally available 3-year CD.

Total GO certificate deposits cannot exceed $75,000.

Credit union membership is open to anyone who lives, works or goes to school in New London or Windham counties in Connecticut. Membership costs $5.

The credit union has 14 locations, including a new headquarters it opened in June. You’ll need to stop by a branch to open your account.
