BME Federal Credit Union offers its top deals with a $500 minimum deposit.Colorado’s BME Federal Credit Union has competitive 5-year CD rates that are available to savers everywhere.

It pays 1.95% APY with a $500 minimum deposit.

That beats the top nationally available 60-month CD rate on our CD Rates Leaderboard by more than a tenth of a percentage point.

You have to be a member of BME Federal Credit Union to purchase these certificates of deposit.

Membership is available to those who live, work, worship or attend school in a limited area of Lafayette – a map is on the website – as well as members’ family and household members, and employees, volunteers and members of businesses, groups and organizations listed on the website.

On that list is the Boulder County Arts Alliance ($30 membership), KGNU community radio ($40) and the Rocky Mountain Center for Musical Arts ($30).

Becoming a member of one of these organizations will allow you to join BME Federal Credit Union, regardless of where you live.

Credit union membership requires a $5 deposit into a savings account and a one-time fee of $1.

Members can buy CDs over the phone and fund the account through the mail or by making a deposit at a shared branch available throughout the country (these are listed on the website). Deposits also can be made in person at the credit union’s single office, which is located at 2800 Arapahoe Ave. in Boulder.
