Chase Halts Fees In Hurricane’s Wake

Chase won't charge ATM or other fees through Sept. 4 for people in 13 states.Chase often shocks us, and rarely in a good way.

But for once, this big bank got it right.

Chase has shown a little compassion for the millions of people on the East Coast who were affected by Hurricane Irene.

Through Sept. 4 it will not charge customers fees for using out-of-network ATMs in the 13 states hit by the storm.

That’s Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Virginia.

It will also waive overdraft, overdraft protection transfer, insufficient fund fees, and late fees on credit cards, business and consumer loans for customers in those states.

This is a boon to people who are still without power, can’t get back into their homes because of water damage, or lose their homes completely.

We often think Chase is one of the least customer-friendly banks around, but it’s doing the right thing in the wake of this disaster.
